I upgraded my HP- F2C09PA#ACJ (15-n 012tx) with Samsung 860 Evo 250 GB internal hard drive.
I have used SSD+ Caddy and placed it in place of the optical drive. After this, I cloned C-drive from HDD to SSD using the Samsung Migration Tool. (Note: ❗while setting up drive, I chose GPT option)
After this,
1. I was able to boot from HDD by default.
2. I was able to boot from SSD if I used "esc+ F9" option to change and select Boot Device.
2.1) In my boot devices option- I was able to see 3 options
(1)Boot from UEFI File, (2)Notebook Hard drive, (3)Notebook Hard drive. (notebook hard drive option was coming twice, is it weird? ❓)
2.2) here I deduced, the last Notebook hard drive was my SSD.
3) boot was successful with manual selection from SSD.
---- Now I wanted to boot by default from SSD -----
for this, I tried-
4) Changing boot order in bios option (F10)
5) in bios option, I was not able to see the SSD listed in the list of options in 'Legacy' and 'UEFI' boot priority.
5.1) however, I saw option of internal CD/DVD drive. Since my SSD was using same SATA point as DVD drive was using- I gave it 1st priority and 2nd to 'OS Boot manager' in both 'Legacy & UEFI' [Here, Legacy support was enabled]
--> still it did not work😞
5.2)Again in the bios option, I disabled Legacy Support and tried --> Still it did not work, 😞 instead, it was showing - ' no boot device found'❓ What could be the problem in this case?
5.3) Another question- In some videos, i saw that 'OS boot Manager' option was having a little triangle '>'infront of it - upon clicking the OS Boot manager- they could see HDD, SSD. In my case it was not happening. Is this also a problem or does it depend on the laptop's manufacturer?
------------- One last option tried---------
6. Since, I am able to boot from SSD using esc+F9 - i.e. by selecting manually the boot drive-
I thought - if boot from SSD then deleting the HDD's OS installation partition could make the bios see- only one bootable drive and it would boot from the SSD. Same I read somewhere in other forums.
7. So, I did exactly, I booted from SSD then I formated the partition of HDD where windows were installed. (btw, while formating it told that the partition is in use 😁)
8. after formatting, I tried rebooting --> it did not work!!! 😐 .
9. rather, I saw a blue screen- saying 'Recovery' - 'your PC needs to be repaired'
10. After this, I tried again using esc+ F9
10.1) Here, again, I saw Notebook Hard Drive twice (same as mentioned in (2.1) ). Again I selected, "Notebook hard drive" to boot from SSD. -> thankfully, at least i was able to boot into the OS from SSD (Although manually again!) 🙄
-------------
11. I am trying not to replace the SSD with HDD physically - just because its difficult and doing it by self is risky and I am not sure that would work.
------------- Now hopes on this forum -----------------------
Can anyone suggest a solution?
(Is there any issue because of using GPT instead of MBR? )
