I'm just looking for a way to scan using the control panel on the printer to a Windows PC, with the scans saved as searchable PDF files.  I found an option for "Save as PDF" in the interface, and that does "work", but I found no obvious way to make the resulting PDF searchable.  It is possible to create searchable PDFs  using the (awful) PC software, but it's slow and cumbersome.  Also terribly unhandy to have to keep running back and forth between scanner and computer, so definately not what I expected from an expensive "Pro" MFP.  

 

Has anyone been able to do this seemingly simple thing?  

 

FWIW, I called into HP, hoping for some help, but the agent wanted to charge me $40, with no accountability for providing an actual solution, citing "HP policy".
