I am looking to possibly upgrade my "m7-n101dx" with an secondary M.2 SSD for my operating system and some programs as I've been battling with a 100% disk issue problem for months now.

Trying to find a concrete answer has been frustrating, I see posts and replies/answers stating that some of these HP ENVY laptops that DO have an M.2 storage slot on the motherboard just simply don't function, or that they only function if you have a specific Nvidia GPU inside, etc.

In the manual for this model I see this listed:
"Support for m.2 SSD (support storage function, assuming SSD >= 128 G, Port0) "

And I also see that for this model that the Dual Storage configuration is only listed as:
"● 1-TB + 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC)
● 4-TB: 2-TB (5400-rpm) x 2"

Am I ONLY able to use a 256 GB M.2 Sata SSD? (specifically not NVMe?) Or would a 500 GB or a 1TB M.2 Sata SSD function properly with the OS installed on it.


Since I can't find any concrete info, my current plan is to get a 2.5 SSD to simply replace the HDD that is inside, but if I had the option, I'd much rather prefer a 500 GB M.2 for OS/Programs in addition to an entire 1TB HDD for storage and files.

Can someone please confirm this with me?  I am begging you, lol.
I have opened my laptop up and I can confirm that I specifically see the M.2 slot on the motherboard.
