Hi,

We bought an Omen HP 17t-cm200 gaming laptop with the optional mechanical / optical keyboard.   After only 3 months one of the keys (alt) just popped off.  After closer inspection I saw that it wasn't the scissor hinge or the key cap that broken, but one of the "retaining clips" that is part of the socket that is attached to the keyboard pc board.   This was very odd to me.   When I looked at the socket and clips, I was surprised to see that it was made of plastic.  Normally the hinge is made of plastic but the little retainer clips that it clips into is made of metal (at least on my other Omen 15t).

We contacted HP support that told us that that part of the keyboard is not covered under the warranty and it would cost $460 dollars to replace the entire keyboard.   That seems strange for something that clearly seems like a manufacturing problem or at least a bad choice of material for that part.

Unfortunately it is not as easy as just ordering a replacement key as it is the "socket" that broken and not the scissor hinge or keycap.  

Anyone else that has seen something similar on these new optical / mechanical laptop keyboards?
