Airprint stops responding/working after half an hour or so after being activated. The only way to get it working again is to disable then re-enable the Airprint functionality for another half an hour or so.
We have other 2 printers, one HP Color Laserjet M555 series and a Canon IR C3530 which both have Airpint working fine on the same vlan. The older hp Multifunction was working fine with Airprint before we replaced it with this M480, nothing was changed on the network. I have seen others encountering this problem but with no resolution. We have opened a request with hp which has lead to nothing really, they suggested to enable hp eprint and set a static IP with google DNS (?!) which I tried but naturally didn't help.
This really seems like a firmware related issue which hp should address. I repeat, we have a rather recent Laserjet M555 which is working fine on the same vlan (mDNS requests are repeated between vlans appropriately by the firewall and in fact the other printers work fine).
***Update: as a workaround I have added an hourly WakeUp schedule from 9 to 6pm and set the sleep timer at 59 minutes. This way at least the printer keeps announcing itself and is picked up by iPhones.
