When trying on install current version of HP Client Security Manager (9.0.0.2116)/SP77916 I get the following error message: "Error 1325.Hewlett-Packard is not a valid short file name". Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks much!

I saw the posts about disabling the DVD drive. But don't have one.

However, I do typically have some external USB hard drives always connected that I do backups to, etc.

I just shutdown, disconnected all external USB drives, re-booted and was able to update to the latest HP Client Security Manager (SP77916) with no problems at all. So, that is a verified way to fix the situation.

Thanks much!

@Skip-

Perhaps you must disable your DVD drive.  Yes, odd.

The following solutions refer to uninstalling" the software.

Because the installation of the new version may invoke an internal "uninstall" function (for the existing version), the fix may well be the same.

First:

Error 1325 when uninstalling HP Client Security

And the solution in context - HP Forum Solution:

Uninstall HP Client Security

Error 1325 upon trying to uninstall HP ProtectTools Security Manager

You are welcome.

I am glad it is sorted.

Thank you for posting your solution!

Readers:

DVD players, internal or external -- USB disk drives --  even USB smart hubs, USB "anything" that is connected to the computer whose purpose or structure might be misinterpreted by the OS, can interfere with installations, uninstall procedures, and Updates (Windows, HP, other computer makers).

To a lesser extent, and depending on the device and the operation, connected Bluetooth devices may interfere.

Problems?  Disconnect unnecessary components (USB / Bluetooth).  Leave connected those items necessary to the computer's function (monitors, keyboards, mice).

Not supposed to happen, but it does.
