Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

New laptop has idiotic HP pop ups. How do I kill them? The bizarre thing is the popup tells me the power supply provided by HP for my laptop is not good enough and I should buy another one. Weird. And now there is some pop up for games. What is wrong with these people at HP??? Why do they think anyone this kind of rubbish getting in the way?

Switch off notifications in Windows.

For example...

  • Notifications - Stop the Onslaught

Method - Switch off Notifications (Windows 10)

Settings > System > Notifications and actions >

Under Notifications, set the following to OFF

  • Get notifications from apps and other senders
  • Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows

Method - Switch off Selected Notifications (Windows 10)

Settings > System > Notifications and actions >

Under Notifications

Switch ON Get notifications from apps and other senders

Scroll down to the list of "apps" > switch on / off each application

Optional:

Switch OFF Show me the Windows Welcome experience...

Switch OFF Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows

Method - Printer Notifications (Recent versions of Windows)

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Left-Click one time on Printer > (top ribbon) Print Server Properties >

Tab Advanced > UNCHECK the following

  • Show informational notifications for local printers
  • Show informational notifications for network printers

OK

Method - Printer Notifications – Device Manager

Paraphrased from a Solution Contributed by  Bob_Headrick

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on your printer >

Printer Properties > Ports > Uncheck "Enable bidirectional support" >

Apply > OK

Seriously?????

What is the point of an HP forum if HP can't provide resolution of common, long-standing problems?

Thanks Dragon-Fur for the suggestion but it is NOT smart. The pop-up refers to a problem where HP has supplied an indadequate charger with the laptop sold to me, and then instead of remedying that they seek to up-sell a larger charger by imposing incessant pop-ups on customers. I don't want to kill all notifications from responsible suppliers to solve a problem from one supplier with a very poor customer relations strategy.

OK - I misunderstood.  I thought the original request was to quell the pop-ups.

It is possible to select which applications are allowed to provide notifications.

Our community is not a direct conduit to HP.  I can ask that someone take a look.

Should there be a response from HP, you will likely see the response here before anyone contacts you using other methods.

Please ignore the earlier suggestions.

I will graciously withdraw.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Support Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
