HP Compaq Pro 6300 Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

Here's the information for the computer I'm needing help with:

HP Compaq Pro 6300 Small Form Factor

Product: D8C56UT

I'm needing driver's for the following:

PCI Serial Port

PCI Simple Communications Controller

I had to perform a reset on my computer and I actually thought that I had saved these drivers somewhere but I can't seem to find them. I was really hoping that microsoft would be able to offer me these drivers in windows update & offer to install them. As I remember, I think that microsoft does in fact have a site where certain drivers can be downloaded & installed. On the actual product page for my computer I was hoping that the drivers that I'm currently missing would be available there. Thanks in advance for any & all help provided.

David W.

Hi Paul,

You've helped with several issues I've had with various computer's, I really need to compile a list of all of the driver's required for this computer and store them up on one of the available cloud storage services I have at my disposal. As always thanks again for all of your help, please stay safe & healthy.

Paul,

By chance would you know of a reputable site where I can find all of the needed drivers for my particular computer ? I know that the actual hp support site has some drivers but unless I somehow missed them they don't seem to offer any for either windows 10 or 11 64-bit.

Hi:

There are a couple of reputable driver websites I know of, but they wouldn't have W10/W11 drivers for your PC, since it wasn't supported by HP for W10.

Find all the drivers for download, update PC (driverscloud.com)

DriversCollection.com

The driver I gave you was for W8.1.

Note that the driver updates that come to you from W11 show up in a different place than they do in W10.

There is an advanced options section in Windows Update for W11, and under that section there is an Optional updates category.

Make sure you check that section periodically to see if any drivers show up there.

There is a W10 audio driver you can use from the 800 G1 SFF that also worked on my 8200 Elite CMT.

It is even newer than the W10 driver I used to use directly from the Realtek site.

It will also work on W11.  I upgraded my 8200 Elite to W11 as well.

Hi Paul,

I'm SO very thankful that you care enough as well as take the time to provide valuable assistance to people such as myself, I'm technically oriented but seemingly not to the degree that you are. Also, since I'm 73+ years old my thinking ability has really changed. My wife & I retired from our full time jobs both of us had positions that required our brains to always be active, especially my wife who had worked for the same company for 40+ years, she was always in the management level & of course she was constantly bombarded with having to make important decisions throughout the course of her workday. I retired from lowe's home improvement having been an electrical specialist for my entire time working for the company, of course since I truly cared about helping others I always found myself being in a lot of different departments throughout the store because I had knowledge of so many different things. So back to what we were mainly talking about, since you are a smart person, you know I've got windows 11 pro  64-bit version installed on what microsoft calls 'unsupported' hardware. For me anyway I found the easiest method was this:  https://pureinfotech.com/create-windows-11-bootable-usb-unsupported-pc-rufus/ , while I do in fact realize that the computer I'm typing this reply on is pretty outdated by todays standards:

Device name HPCompaq6300SFF
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.88 GB usable)
Device ID 4E1464AB-D094-4B0F-ACB1-4652D305B82F
Product ID 00330-80000-00000-AA715
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
At least I'm able to run windows 11 pro on it and so far still receive regular updates normally, of course at some point microsoft might do something on their end to change all of that. My computer seems considerably faster with windows 11 compared to windows 10, of course my desktop isn't as fast as my lenovo thinkpad T430 that's also running windows 11 pro 64-bit due to the fact that my laptop has a ssd installed. I was trying to determine if I could somehow install a ssd in my desktop, of course that would make it considerably faster. I do have a copy of the hardware manual for my desktop, I'll just have to do some further research about this. Please stay safe & healthy.

Anytime, David.

Glad to have been of assistance.

The 6300 Pro is still a nice PC.

I am very happy with my HP 8200 Elite.

I have also installed W11 on all of my unsupported HP and Dell desktop and notebook PC's.

I found this method to be the easiest way to do an in-place upgrade on any PC.

Some of my PC's are so old, they don't have a UEFI BIOS, support secure boot, have a TPM device, or a supported processor.

Thanks for sharing your and your wife's background.

I'm glad you enjoyed your professions and were able to work for many years, and now can enjoy the fruits of your labors.

I am a little bit younger than you are (not much...just turned 70 this July).

I served in the U. S. Coast Guard for the majority of my working life after graduating college.

Then I began a second career after I retired from the service working for the American Red Cross and retired from there in 2013.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for your service to our country, both with the coast guard & the red cross. Eventually I'm thinking that both of us will need to consider having to breakdown and consider buying new computers. Of course that's what microsoft tries to get people to do anyway, that why they seem to keep making it more and more difficult to upgrade to their newer operating systems. While I'm thinking about it, have you ever checked out this site: https://forums.mydigitallife.net  it's got a lot of useful information on it. Have a great remainder of the weekend, please stay safe & healthy.

Thanks, David.

I do have newer PC's in my inventory.

I buy off-lease HP and Dell business desktops off eBay.

My newest PC is still not W11 capable--a Dell Optiplex 7050 MT with an Intel i7-7700 processor.

That runs W11 fine too, and I installed a NVMe SSD in it and it is fast enough for my needs.

I have checked out that my digital life site and it does have a lot of useful info.

They also have some very good general PC article links.

I think that is the first place I was able to find out how to download Windows 7 ISO files way back when.

You enjoy the rest of the weekend as well and stay safe and healthy too!
