Paul,

Do you ever sell any of the computers that you buy, and if so what kind of prices are they ? I looked on your profile but it didn't seem to state where you are located. Are you located in the united states somewhere ? Enjoy the remainder of the weekend.

Hi, David:

I live in the city of O'Fallon, IL which is about 16 miles east of St. Louis, MO.

I do not sell any of my PC's.

When I no longer want a PC, I donate it to Savers Thrift Store.

There are some 300 or so of those stores located in various places.

If the PC does not work, I bring it to the local PC repair shop in town for recycling.

You can get some great deals on business PC's on eBay.

HP's:  Elitedesk 800 G1's and newer.

Dells:  Optiplex 7020's and newer.

I only buy the towers, but there seem to be more of the SFF models for sale, if those are more to your liking.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for trusting me enough to share your location with me, I was born in terre haute, indiana. Actually my wife (of 51+ years) & I were born in the same city & the same hospital, I've always considered that pretty neat. What would help my current desktops run even more efficiently would be to increase the installed memory to the maximum amount allowed . I haven't priced memory sticks in quite a while so I don't know how much that would set me back financially right now. My wife & I both retired from our full time jobs in 12/2018, and even though we're in good shape financially I still find myself watching what I spend my money for. The computer has the following memory specifications:

Type:
  • DDR3 non-ECC
  • Up to 1600 MT/s
Maximum:
32 GB
Number of slots:
4
By chance do you know of a site that sells reputable products at a fair price ?

Hi, David:

That is quite a coincidence you and your wife were born in the same city and hospital.

We have driven through Terre Haute many times visiting our families in New Jersey, which is where my wife and I are from.

For memory, your best bet would be to get the Crucial memory recommended for your PC:

Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 UDIMM | CT102464BD160B | Crucial.com

I checked Amazon and it costs more there.

You can get it for less money from this seller.

Crucial 8GB DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Micron Chipset Desktop Memory Model CT102464BD160B - Newegg.com

While I have used NewEgg many times in the past, I have not bought from the seller that New Egg is shipping the memory from.

Paul,

Always nice to speak with you, I'd still like to visit terre haute one last time before I die, but I don't know if I'll be able to or not. Besides that city has changed so much I might not even be able to recognize it anymore. I'm a member of two groups on facebook that are based out of terre haute and the images they post show that all of the buildings that I was familiar with while I was growing up have been torn down. I've never been to new jersey or new york for that matter. Always nice to speak with you, stay safe and healthy.

Hi Paul,

I just left the newegg.com site regarding the memory via the link you included in your reply, the price for the memory is great, but what's not so great are the outrageous shipping charges. I'll just keep looking around until I can find something I feel more comfortable with & hopefully much lower shipping charges. Thanks as always for trying to help me.

You're very welcome, David.

Sorry, I forgot to look at the shipping costs.

I've never paid no more than a couple of dollars in the past for shipping from NewEgg.

Paul,

The bottom line is the fact that at least you tried to help me find some memory, as you know because you are an intelligent person, memory prices are constantly fluctuating. Have a great day, stay safe & healthy.

Hi Paul,

I hope this reply finds you doing well & staying safe, since I totally agree with the title given you by hp, I need to get your opinion on what might be causing the issue that just started occurring with my HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF PC - Product #D8C56UT. I've noticed lately that it's been having an issue booting up, I first suspected two different item's that I thought might be causing the issue, (1) Power Supply  (2) Power Switch . I took the power supply out of the hp desktop I'm currently using to type this reply to you on, it's a HP Compaq Pro 6000 SFF - Product # VS742UA to see if the computer might power up, no change. Since I always keep high quality electronic cleaner that's plastic safe on hand because I never know when I'm going to need yo use it on a device. So I sprayed the power switch just by chance to see if it might solve the issue, no difference. On the motherboard there's a cmos reset button so I pressed it to see if that would help, no difference, now I'm wondering if it MIGHT possibly be the hard drive ? The great thing about my current issue is the fact that I only paid approximately $75.00 for the computer due to the fact I bought it from a firm that recycles / scrapes computers that they acquire. Thanks in advance if you might decide to respond back to me, please continue to stay safe & healthy.

Hi, David:

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be, but I don't believe it is the hard drive because the PC would power on fine and report some kind of drive error, such as no bootable device found, etc.

I have a 6200 Pro MT that I need to bring to the local PC shop for them to have for parts, because I wanted to test out a video card, and when I put the card I wanted to test in the PC, nothing happened, so I put the original card back in and nothing happened.

Somehow, I managed to kill the motherboard, and the PC was unplugged when I did the swap.

I even tested the PC with just the onboard video.  Nothing.

Fixing oddball issues with hardware is not one of my strong points at all.

Cheers,

Paul
