Sounds like you'll have to unload the 1050C driver, then reboot the computer and then try reloading the 5500 driver.

Also be sure you're ADDING a printer.  May want to disconnect the printer from the computer and reboot so it doesn't see the 1050C.

These are just the steps I'd try if I was doing it.  Someone may have a better idea.  Plus, I'm using Win 7 so it might be different on Win 10.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.

Hi D Hook,

I am experiencing similar problems, and took your advice and installed the 5500 driver for my 1050c and windows 10.

I believe I have my PC and 1050c communicating but cannot get the printer to print. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

If you can not get it to print how do you know the printer and computer are communicating. Tell us how the printer is connected as there is only parallel or network connections possible. Since most computers today do not have parallel ports is you are using parallel, then you are using an adapter which with windows 10 can be an issue. If not using network recommend you get a network card and use network since you will then be able to communicate using tcp/io.

Hi Davidzuts,

I am using a network connection, and have now gotten my 1050c to print using the 5500 driver.  The only problem is that the image is coming out all black.

Everything on the printers end is good, and the printer does print in colour when doing a test print.. Any advice?

Hi again,

Same issue. Sorry for being a pain.  Any other ideas or drivers?

HP Recommended

No other ideas but did you try just a plain windows test page. If not try it as it may be the software you are using and not the driver that is the issue.

I've had the same issue when trying to print jpegs or any kind of photo's.  But I only use mine for printing cad stuff so don't run into that problem too often.  As David suggested, try printing the test page first from the driver properties.  If that prints okay you at least know you have communication.  Or try printing simple text from a word program.

If you intend to print photos or files from image programs you may have the wront printer.  Even when using the 1050C driver I still had the same issue.  But maybe someone else can speak to that.  It may have something to do with the model of printer and the fact that it's not a 1050CM Plus.

Good luck!

Thanks Davidzuts, and D Hook,

I printed the test print from both drivers and it works great.

I think the problem is that I have the wrong printer for the job. I intend to print maps from an application called geoScout. I will try to play around with it, and find a image file that is compatible with the printer.

Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.

I have exactly the same problem. I have FINALLY got my 1050C plotter printing from ACAD with Windows 10 operating system.  I was so excited as to print I have been having to make a PDF file from ACAD, then send to the plotter.     As per the recommendations here, I have set it up using the design jet 5500 driver. IT PRINTS!!!

But my excitement has disipated to find the any images on my drawing are black, or any viewports with 'shades of grey' set.

any new ideas on overcoming this challenge?   THe rest of the drawing prints fine. Just images and shaded viewports print all black..

AND... if I set driver to process in computer rather than printer (since my plotter is limited in memory) it prints the entire page black!!!

This is a frustrating situation.
