Designjet 1050c Plus
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an old Designjet 1050C Plus picked up recently almost for free. I have brought it back home late evening and only managed to assembly it and do some Demo prints which was absolutely fine. I have moved it now to another room where I can connect it to the Network and it goes up just fine although it does state all 4x Cartridges are faulty. Before this it had 2x cartridges of nearly 100% and the other 2x was on about 40% left. I have tried the cold start, checked the printheads and it all seems fine, but can't get passed through this issue. Any advice and help would be very helpful!

Regards, Mark

Try this:

Shut down the printer using first the power button on the front of the printer, then the switch on the back of the machine.  Then remove all four cartridges.  Reboot the printer and wait for it to ask for the cartridges to be inserted.  Insert them FIRMLY into the slot, taking note of the status of each one on the front panel.  If it asks to reseat the cartridge or says it's faulty, try reseating again, maybe even a few times.  Any cartridge that doesn't register as okay, replace.

These cartridges can go bad, connections may be not secure.  You can open the back of the printer behind the cartridges and check the two blue "knobs" to be sure the ink supply system is firmly locked in place.  Sometimes the ink supply station will get loose or out of adjustment and not let the cartridge make a good connection.  I also have a 1055C that I use regularly and have seen this same problem occasionaly.  Usually a reseating of the ink cartridge takes care of it.  Right now it has a Cyan printhead that is asking to be replaced but it still prints perfectly so I'll use it until it refuses to print.  I have a spare Cyan printhead ready to replace it with.  I just ignore the "Replace" error for now.  But with ink cartridges it won't print until they all are in "ready" status.

If you do need to replace the cartridges, they're easily available on Ebay for not much money.  Older ink cartridges will work just fine.  But older printheads are kind of iffy when they get past the 6 year out-of-warranty mark.  Especially the cyan and magenta.  Anyway, that's been my experience.

If you do a google search for the printers' service manual it would be a good idea to download it to see how that ink station works.

Let us know what happens.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.
