Hi,
I get an error 86:01 on my printer. I replaced the belt because it was frayed but keep getting this error code. It would suggest a paper jam but after inspection that is not the case.
The carriage comes to rest over the Service Area with error code showing suggesting (according to Hp service manual) that could be the problem area. Suggestions?
Thank you,
Roger

I would go with Mike's suggestion. Most times when someone who has not done so before changes the belt, they turn the carriage over and the bushing has a habit of falling out or breaking in half. See the link below for the location of the bushing.

Hi Mike,
I replaced the broken carriage bushing and that corrected the error code 86:01. Thank you.
Now I'm getting a message to replace one of the printheads. First the message said printhead wasn't seated correctly.
I took it out and put it back in. Now it says to replace it. Suggestions?
Roger

Hi,
There are a few possible causes.
- Ink cartridges.
Replace any ink cartridges below 30% and reseat the printehads.
Once the printer accept the printheads you can install the old cartridges to use the ink
- Bad contact between the printheads and the carriage
Clean the electrical contacts on the flex cables and printheads.
This could be related to bad flex contacts or Carriage PCA
- Dirty Drop Detector
Drop detector is not able to identify the working nozzles think the printhead is bad
On the following link is a document with the instruction to clean it
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00814402
- Dirty encoder strip
Carriage does not move to the right position so the drop detector check the nozzles
- Printhead
Nozzles are not working or there is an electrical problem with the printhead
On this case replace the printhead
Also, make sure the firmware is updated.
