HP DesignJet Z6 Pro 64-in Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

We have a new HP DesignJet Z6 Pro 64-inch plotter with the PDF/PS Upgrade kit installed and working but we cannot get to it from a current web browser: Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

This is internal only and we do not use a web proxy.

We can print to it fine, including HP Click and HP Support Assistant.

Each web browser is at the newest level as well as the firmware on the plotter

One of my co-workers was able to get to it using Firefox 99.0.1 but as soon as Firefox was updated to the newest level 100.0 he gets the same error as me.

Edge Version 101.0.1210.32 (Official build) (64-bit)

Chrome Version 101.0.4951.54 (Official Build) (32-bit)

Firefox Version 100.0 (64-bit)

Reference:

We are very sorry. This web browser is not supported.
  • The web browser you are using is not supported. You must update your browser to a newer version or use a different browser.

We updated the firmware this morning via USB stick and we can now get into it using current edge, chrome and firefox web browsers. And, it works with our CA wildcard SSL installed.

Just to confirm that you installed all 3 parts of the firmware released in March of 2022 Version 36.5

Correct, the firmware is good to go as listed here from a screenshot I just took using Firefox v99.0.1

Exact same problem here. Exact same printer model. It works with Safari, but not with any other up-to-date web browser. This is spectacular. Despite the error message being misleading, I think the last web page I saw doing a browser version check was from last century.

The HP DesignJet Utility v6.4.4.4860 can't find it by hostname or ip either.

Imported a CA signed wildcard SSL which loaded fine and set it as the plotter's certificate.

This did not help and cannot get back into the screens even using the older Firefox web browser.

As part of that process HP deletes the certificate it shipped with.

Firefox error is about the plotter enforcing HSTS and therefore blocks any non-secure connection.

Apparently this plotter is not happy with a CA signed wildcard SSL.

I'm hoping the next firmware update fixes all this.
