I purchased a spare 24 inch spindle (Q6700A) when I bought my HP Z9+ printer. I have checked and it is the correct part according to HP but it looks completely different to the spindle that shipped with the printer which has a geared sprocket which fits into the machine and meshes with a small wheel that rotates the paper roll whereas the spare spindle just has a round end on it which obviously can't be rotated by the printer when loading/unloading. When I try and unload a roll using the spare spindle the printer detects paper drive errors and I have to go through a self testing routine (which the printer always passes) and a re-boot every time I use this spindle. Am I missing something or is this part not for use on the Z9???

I've just heard back from my supplier and you are correct re the part number and it seems HP have not updated the spec sheet for this machine. I've attached a screenshot of the updated spec justUntitled-1.jpg in case anybody else is having the same problem. Many thanks for all your help 🙂

Part number in the brochure is a CQ783A, but the part you purchased appears to be a valid number as well. Can you post a picture, maybe wrong product in the box?

Here are 2 pictures: the spindle with the geared wheel/teeth is the one that came with the machine and the round smooth one is the extra spindle code # Q6700AIMG_4158.jpgIMG_4160.jpg

Error in manufacturing would be my guess as this plotter uses the same spindles as the older models and they all have the geared end.

I don't think that is the answer I'm afraid. I have several of these spindles for my Z3200 and Z3100 and none of them have geared ends - see attached picIMG_4176.jpg
