HP DesignJet Z6200 42-in Photo Production Printer

Hello,

kid was left alone with our printer, and next day we discovered that the region of the printer got changed from Europe to North America (hard to miss when it rejects all ink cartridges...). I tried to follow region change procedure but was informed by the printer that it´s only allowed once and now I have to contact HP and tell the code to change back.

Could I get some help with this, please? The code that I was prompted to tell is: 4150.

Thank you in advance!

Could some HP employee respond, please.

On the front panel menu there should be a menu item called "Setup Menu".  Under that menu you should find an option called "Resets".  From there you should be able to select "Restore Factory Settings".  That might bring back the region you had before.  But if it shipped originally as "North America" and you changed it to "Europe" the reset may not be effective.

If that doesn't work, you may have to reset the EEROM, which will wipe out any files from past prints and completely restore the printer to the condition it left the factory.  So it should be set then for "North America" and you should be able to reset it to "Europe" without problem.*

If you have an owner's manual, the info on the "Restore Factory Settings" is located on page 199.  Page 194 gives a list of all menu items accessible from the front panel.  If you don't have a manual, here's a link:

Also, if you need to do a reset of the EEROM, that information is available in the Service Manual.  Here's a link:

https://www.laserexpressinc.com/manuals/HP/hp-dsj-z6200-service-manual.pdf

The instructions are on page 101 under "Service Tests and Utilities".  (You'll want to read that over very carefully so you know what's going to happen before you push any buttons.)  If you have any accounting info that you need off the printer, you'll want to make a record of it since it won't be retrievable after the EEROM reset.

If that doesn't help, maybe someone from HP will chime in a and have other suggestions.

*I have done EEROM resets on that model of printer before and had good success in getting rid of looping-type and setup  errors.  But I can only offer advice based on my own experience, not from an HP factory  trained tech.  Hopefully you can break through the labyrinth of HP service and get an answer to such a simple question before you need to take any further steps.

Let us know how you come out.

Hi D Hook,

Thanks for your very thorough reply. Unfortunately none of those helped to restore the original region of the printer. It was set to Europe from the factory, so I guess only HP can help to restore it.

Best regards, Jan.

Sorry none of that worked for you Jan.  Maybe a forum member from HP will step in and get the info you need.  They do monitor this site regularly.

When reading the owner's manual I wished they would've highlighted that fact about only being able to change the region once.  I'm sure you're not the only customer who's run into that problem.

Best of luck.
