CX600 and Skype for Business Compatibility

Curious if anyone knows if it will be possible to configure the CX600 MS Lync Phone Edition to work with Skype for Business online version?

Polycom and other manufacturers produce these optimized for Microsoft® Lync® devices after a reference design and the embedded OS running on the phones is provided, supported and maintained by our partner Microsoft®.

You therefore may want to reach out to the Microsoft® community and / or Microsoft® support directly instead as this is the most direct and efficient path.

I found this thread while researching this very topic and subsequently discovered that a list of supported phones for Skype for Business Online has been posted on the support.office.com site:

• Supported phones for Skype Business Online

 The list includes two specific Lync Phone Edition (LPE) devices manufactured by Polycom:

• Polycom CX600 and CX3000 (when authenticated with Active Directory credentials using PIN authenication and CAP phone provisioning). For these phones to work, you must download Microsoft Lync Phone Edition for Polycom CX500, Polycom CX600 and Polycom CX3000.

Peter Huboi has also posted an article covering all Polycom Phones Ready for New Skype for Business Online Cloud PBX Services in detail.

The CX600 also appears in the Microsoft Skype for Business Solutions Catalog: Polycom CX600.

Note that the LPE May 2015 CU (version 4.0.7577.4463) is required; if your device is running an earler firmware release, access to an on-premise Lync environment will be required in order to update the device.

We have a CX600 device with older firmware and will be attempting to bring up a virtual Lync 2013 Test Drive lab environment for the specific purpose of updating the firmware (and while I realized that purchasing a supported, compatible VVX device would certainly be quicker and easier, I wouldn't learn nearly as much!).

I hope others researching this issue find this information useful.

Have you had any luck with the Lync Test Drive Lab? I'm attempting something similar in my own environment now but having issues with Skype for Business server, wondering if the test drive lab is compatible.
