We made a small change to our Polycom VVX 201 Handset that has solved the problem of the ring not being load enough for our machine shop.
We added a small 3.5mm jack socket to the base that was in paralell with the small speaker on the base. We bought a small audio amp on ebay and connected it to loud speakers. All of this cost us less than £50 and does not effect the handset function in any way. Now when the phone rings it has 20 watts RMS of power that could wake the dead.
