ISO: external speaker/mic to extend the audio reach of a VVX400 (big desk, lots of conference calls via speakerphone with people in my office who are not near where I like to keep my desk phone). In fact, it would be great if Polycom structured their phone technology to make all encompassing the connectivity to a PC, a bluetooth headset for my cell AND desk phone, and connectivity for my latest quest, an external speaker/mic.

welcome to the Polycom Community.
A deskphone has certain limitations that cannot be overcome.
You should probably look at our Polycom RealPresence Trio as a conference phone which also can be used via bluettoth from a Mobile phone.
