Since upgrading from 5.4.0 to 5.4.1, the length of the user agent string has become ridiculously long. ie, it used to be:
"PolycomVVX-VVX_400-UA/5.4.0.5841_0004f2ddXXXX"
It is now:
"Polycom/5.4.1.14510 PolycomVVX-VVX_500-UA/5.4.1.14510_0004f2b11XXX"
Our switch has a limit of 64 characters for the user agent, so the string is being truncated, and we lose part of the MAC address, which makes it difficult to manage devices, especially when we are approaching 8000 devices.
Is it really necessary for the string to contain all the duplication? Can there perhaps be a setting introduced to use a shorter user agent string which only contains details of the firmware major and minor version, the hardware, and the MAC address?

Hello Squigley,
not sure why we do this so I am tracking this via 1-2070398514 / VESC-6101

I agree, this also caused issues with our platform. While we are not impacted by the amount of characters we now have to account for multple user-agent string in our device profile mappings since there are phones running different versions of software.

Hello all,
I checked this internally and I believe we now follow:
- The User-Agent header, as specified in [RFC3261] section 20.41, is constructed per the ABNF, as defined in [RFC5234], specified in [RFC3261] section 24.1
I believe this is for Skype for Business compatibility and any change on a SIP only side would require a feature request as outlined here:
Jan 03, 2013 Question: How can I request a change to the current Polycom SIP / UCS Software?
Resolution: Please check => here <=

Hello all,
we actually changed this back and future software versions should no longer have this modified User Agent string.
Any software after:
- 5.4.4
or - 5.5.0
If you require access to a hotfix prior to this please work with your Polycom reseller and quote VESC-6710 / 1-3629035321 in order to raise this.
