Obi 200
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I use an ObiHai Obitalk 200 device for IP conferencing and home use. I also pay into an e911 service. I am a highly technical and savvy person when it comes to IT. My question to this community is, can I manage this device on my home network without a cloud service? If I can, is there a way to configure it through its managed device website for my home network?

Help and understanding is appreciated. I'm not looking to move services at this time.

Thanks!

Hello @amp794u ,

welcome to the HP Poly community.

  • The official explanation of why and when the ObiHai Portal will retire is >here<
  • In case the question is related to Google Voice our partner Google provides >this<
There is also a 3rd party discussion over >here< on Reddit concerning ObiHai and Google. There are also more details >here<

from the HP Poly ObiHai FAQ:

Q: Will I still be able to use my OBiHAI Device to contact 911 in case of an emergency?

A: While the changes to the OBiTALK Consumer Portal is not intended to have any impact to the daily operation of already configured devices, there is a risk that existing devices will become unregistered, either temporarily or permanently during this decommissioning process.

Therefore, HP advises users to reach out to their Cloud PBX provider and E911 provider should they have concerns about their ability to dial 911 in an emergency. Additionally, HP recommends customers begin to seek alternative measures for requesting emergency services should the decommissioning impact your existing device.

Q: Will I retain access to my device?

A: Yes!  While the OBiHAI devices were enhanced through their connection to the OBiTALK Service, the connection was not required for most configurations.  You will continue to be able to locally configure your OBiHAI devices for as long as you own the device and may continue to use and register it to other Cloud PBX providers.

Best Regards

Thank you for the links. Many of those I already combed through. Basically, the only solution is to "buy in" to a service to continue to use my IP phone once service is finally cut off.

Thank you for your response. I have downloaded the manual for my ObiHai device. Prior to that I already made the necessary changes so that my service won't be reset on the device once HP cuts the cord.

I was thinking the same thing, but it's already November 5th, and the world is still revolving and my Obitalk-connected phone is still working! Even voicemail! I cannot reset my outgoing voicemail message tho, if you have any suggestions for that! Hope yours works too, thanks for your questions!

Steffan, when you say it can "still be configured locally" how does one do that when the dashboard for Obi is gone? Thanks so much. Especially looking to update my voicemail outgoing message!

Hello @MissMyObitalk ,

Welcome to the HP Poly community.

The device has a Web Interface which allows you to configure this locally.

If no other volunteers reply, I suggest you contact our Support organization in your region. Details are in my Signature.

I’m honored to hear from you Steffan! Thanks for taking the time to reply. After a few hours, I found the solution!

Since I had switched this line to ANVEO years ago when Obitalk threatened to not link to GoogleVoice, tho later they changed their minds)  I checked the Anveo dashboard.

ANVEO Users:

To change the Voicemail Outgoing Message is done by dialing *123 from a handset on the line connected to Anveo.

Thanks again so much,

I still miss my Obitalk!

If you go to the internal IP address of your ObiHai device, that is the main interface. You will have to jump on your router to find the IP more than likely. Once you are in there, change the password. Then go to System Management > Auto Provisioning and turn the method parameter to "Disabled". This will ensure your device doesn't accidentally look to HP for updates. If it does and they want to send out a mass reset, you will lose your configuration.
