I have a Soundpoint 550 and have it connected via a VoIP hosted provider.  My internet access is not always robust enough to stop clipping on calls and delays in the voice.  Some calls have a satellite like quality where you have to wait for one person the finish their words before you can talk.  The phone is terrific and the IP capabilities are great but I can't depend 100% on my ISP.

I would like to do the following for my small home office business.  Can I place some sort of ATA or gateway at my router and also have the PSTN line connect to the same gateway so incoming calls can always egress via my PSTN link and out going calls can be done over my VoIP hosted platform?  Or better yet, can I simply use the PSTN line as my primary connection via some sort of gateway from my LAN?  I only use the VoIP provider for international calls (2-3 times a year) and of course the features of the hosted PBX.  I envision it as adding a second line to the phone if possible.

I don't think I can do this but before giving up I thought someone must have attempted this.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello m491,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The Phone in question supports multiple separate SIP registrations and using a small ATA  or even a small Asterisk server with a analog gateway could do this.

Polycom does not manufacture any of this equipment so you need to await some feedback of other users or utilize a search engine.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Thanks for teh quick reply reagrdng my question.  Does the seperate SIP regsitrations treat a PSTN connection via an ATA gateway the same?  Would there be any tutorials on how to setup the seperate SIP registrations?  I might be able to sort it out from that information.

Hello m491,

the VoIP FAQ contains:

Oct 7, 2011 Question: Can I register or is my Polycom Phone compatible with a “XYZ” SIP Server?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Above post shows how to setup a Line 1. Any additional line is the same.

Best Regards
