Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new all in one desktop running on windows 11 and I am still finding my way around it.

I believe it has a built in mic but when I do a test it only picks up 3% volume.

I have run the diagnostic program and it says the mic has no issues.

I have a pop-up webcam but it makes no difference if it is up or down.

I don't want to plug in a mic.

Questions:

1. is there actually a built-in mic and if so, where is it?

2. How do I adjust the sensitivity so it picks up normal speech.

@JD486 -- is this your computer: HP Envy 27 All-in-One Microphone Problem - HP Support Community - 6354322

This page states that the built-in microphone is automatically muted when the camera is closed, to prevent a computer-hacker from listening through your microphone when it is closed.

That is a nice feature!

thanks for a response, but I did say in my question: "I have a pop-up webcam but it makes no difference if it is up or down."

we need the exact model of your computer, and the product number
To find it follow this

and for a laptop
HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Product Name or Number? | HP® Customer Support

Give the full name with the product number P / N

this is not a model:

It is All-in-One PC

Model 27-dp1022na

ProdID 53Y53Ea#ABU

Windows 11 Version 21H2

If I use Zoom with the camera up or down, the mic works.

If I test the mic it does not work more than 3%

@JD486 -- in Windows, open the "Audio Mixer" app, and check that one of the "sliders" is NOT set to 3%

HP Recommended

the input slider is set (and has always been set) to 100%

I am a little more confused today!

I had been shouting 'Alexa' at my PC but nothing had happened, apart from other devices in other rooms answering!

Today I have clicked on the Alexa icon in the desktop app instead of saying 'Alexa' and I can speak in a normal voice to the PC and Alexa will give me answers. This is with the pop-up camera down, so there must be a built in mic despite everyone telling me there isn't.

Same question -where is it?

HP Recommended

Hi

personally i never said you don't have any
The microphone is often integrated into the webcam, but here I could not confirm
If I understood correctly, finally, with alexa, your microphone works well?

HP All-in-One 27-dp1019na PC Product Specifications

there is not the reference of your model here, but same type

HP True Vision 720p HD privacy camera with integrated dual array digital microphones

the microphone should be in the webcam

therefore for best use, the webcam should be in the open position
