We have a strange issue that has cropped up at our educational institute.
reports are coming in from users running HP G9 mini workstations purchased 2023 who have no sound.
On investigation a new Realtek driver has recently installed.
Now what happens is if our USB Yealink headphones are plugged in the windows audio service crashes and wont start until the device is removed. This also happens with Logitech webcams.
I have tested a random no name USB headset that works ok.
Rolling back the Realtek drivers has no effect, Windows 11 22h2 is installed and fully up to date. Firmware also updated to no effect.
I also uninstalled the latest couple of Windows updates for a test but no luck.
This all leads me to believe its an HP issue with these specific machines (we have older desktop minis from previous years that are not affected)
Anyone else experiencing anything like this? It started last couplie days.

We are also experiencing this exact same scenario.
HP 400 G9 mini PC's with Windows 11 22h2 along with the latest BIOS, Realtek Audio and chipset drivers.
When plugging in a Yealink USB headset the Windows Audio service stops and cannot be started until the headset is unplugged. We have tested with 3 different Yealink headsets WH62, WH63 and a generic plug and play Yealink headset all of which cause the audio service to crash.
With a generic Microsoft USB headset the audio service remains running though.
Interestingly I have tried a Logitech USB webcam as well, but that doesn't cause the audio service to stop for us.
We have a number of these HP 400 G9 mini PC's out there with the same combination of Yealink WH62 headsets but only some of the machines are affected by this.
If the PC SSD is formatted and Windows freshly reinstalled the Yealink headset will work and the audio service will not crash until Windows Updates have installed. I'm unable to pinpoint which update is causing the issue because Windows won't allow me to remove all of the updates that install. It must be recent though as we have only seen this issue appear yesterday (18/09/23).
I will see if we can open a case with HP.

I have been on chat support but they are stating that on a fresh image its ok so its not Windows or the hardware which I suppose is correct.
I believe it to be the latest Realtek driver causing issues not the headsets specifically as I can replicate with a Logitech C220
I tried an old Logitech camera which works fine so that complicates things further.

We also have this issue 5 x HP Elite Mini 600 G9 Desktop PC and WH62 Yealink headsets. We have spent hours trying to rectify the issue and windows restore fixes the issue then windows updates again and breaks them.
This is defiantly a HP issue.

HP have said to us they want to send an engineer with a replacement motherboard.
They would like to go through this step first before escalating the issue on their side.
The PC is in warranty so it isn't too much trouble.
The engineer we spoke with has been made aware of this thread.
I will post back once the engineer has replaced the motherboard.
Unless it is a different revision of motherboard it is likely that the issue will still be present.

Yes - same issue here for 4x HP Minis. Happened to my PC first and thought I was just unlucky! We also have Yealink USB headsets, and Logitech webcams. Also have Logitech desk speakers via AUX.
I ended up having to rebuild my PC from scratch with a fresh W11 install to get sound working again, however the update returned and installed itself (overnight) and I have now lost sound again. Interestingly, when removing all external sound devices, the built in PC speakers work!
Currently have this logged with HP and they have confirmed it as a worldwide issue affecting HP Minis.

Yep, I have the same thing on multiple machines. I have tried sifting through various drivers, removing updates etc.
Is there a specific update we can remove to get around this issue until HP comes up with a fix?

We have put a batch file on our clients machines with a shortcut to run it on the desktop (run as admin). Our main issue is the headsets are no longer seen by 3CX Voip app and this fixes it. (Note you need to get the specific device ID - device properties of 'Realtek(R) Audio" in device manager)

Hope this helps
