Hi:

The latest BIOS update for the d530 is this one...

2.44    Aug 14, 2008

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40001-40500/sp40411.exe

I would make the bootable floppy disk using the utility because the Windows based flash was not written to be run in W7.

The microcode update is 1.09   Nov 11, 2005, and the only way to install it is to make the bootable floppy disk.

But as I discussed with you earlier, neither may fix the microcode error you are getting with the 1 MB L2 processor cache.

The PC was designed to only run the Pentium 4 processors with the 512 KB L2 cache.

So I can install both BIOS?

That is what I am actually working on(the stuff I am compiling) cause I realized something odd

I will post it in a few days

Wow, not even USB

What system information tool can you recommend if you want to know more about the hardware in your PC?

Hi:

Yes, you can install them both.

I did on mine.

Yes, you MUST use a USB FDD.

I even tried to trick the PC by making a bootable USB drive and labeling it A:\  like a floppy drive is named, and it wouldn't work.

Wow

Ok, let me look for a FDD

You should be able to find one on eBay or someplace.

I have zipped up and attached below, the free utility I use that tells you many things about your PC's hardware.

Which utility should I use to flash the BIOS?

HP Recommended

This one which I have already posted before.

And also remember what I wrote before...

I would make the bootable floppy disk using the utility because the Windows based flash was not written to be run in W7.

Can I make it bootable on the same PC that I want to flash the BIOS?

Can I do the same for the microcode update as well?

HP Recommended

If W7 lets you create the bootable floppy disk you can.

I don't remember if it works on W7 or not.

I think I had to use a PC with XP on it to create the bootable floppies.

All I can say is see if it works.

I tried but it did not work, when I booted from the floppy disk there was only a blinking underscore

Now when I try to read a floppy Disk from the drive it says A:\ is not available. The disk in drive A is not formatted
