Solved!

Boot device not found and No Hard Disk (3F0) error

HP Recommended
Pavillion 500-424
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Any solution to this? I have had this problem off and on for years but now it is more frequent. So far hitting the power button and the escape key has worked but I want to know what is wrong and what needs to be done.

@TiredDebbie

That's a sign that the hard drive is failing and eventuall, it will fail entirely and you will lose everything on it.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

Please report back the test results.

@TiredDebbie,

I have escalated your concerns.

Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
