Hi Repelsteeltje,
I have the same system, same problem. Was curious if your rebuild worked and if you think you know what was the cause?
- You stated you "refresh PC without luck". Was this the option the HP tech suggested that would only install OS and leave data intact or what exactly did yo mean by refresh PC vs. reinstall OS?
- You then state you "reinstalled OS" I assume when you reinstalled Windows (10?) you updated to all windows patches.
- I also assume you then updated with all the HP drivers on their support site. Was the BIOS already updated before, or was that part on post install update?
Thanks
Joe

This is to let you know that I have opened up a support call to solve the freezing system. I have reinstalled the OS according HP support asked me to. The problem persists. So I am waiting for HP to repair the system. Freezing happened intermittent by just using youtube and also during the time I am away. HP Diagnostics did not point to a defective part. But in windows there are errors related to the realtek chip. But I have no clue if this is the issue.. I gave up and asked HP for a solution..

any update? I have the 1177c costco unit with same issues. Opened ticket with HP today (1/9) and now running internal Boot/F2 extensive system diagnostic for the entire day to see if it hangs outside of Windows. If hangs, then hardware issue and I need to send computer away for 2 weeks of service at an HP service center. Ugh! Otherwise, if it doesnt hang on the comprehensive internal diagnostic then have take HP’s recommendation and perform a full scratch reinstall of the factory Win 10 home. BTW - I already performed the simple “reset reinstall” of Win 10 from the hard drive (which gives me option of not overwriting personal data) and it didn't fix it. Will keep all posted. Joe

I am doing the F2 internal extensive tests now as well. interesting to hear that you said yours locked up on this test. that means it is not windows related but instead a hardware problem. your next step is to coordinate this info with HP (which I think you already have) and send it in for 2 weeks of hardware repair. That is what I will do it mine also locks during that test, which is running right now. I personally think its hardware and possibly the NVidea card. just a guess, but could also be on of those HP firmware updates which i dont know how to revert back to factory. who the hell knows. pisses me off. joe
