This week I received a weird message on my computer screen saying “no operating system”. I rebooted and it was fine for a few days. Now once I turn on the Omen 30L (model #G113-0024) Desktop PC, it loads the Omen boot up screen but not Windows 11. My product number is 9EE29AA
Is it possible that a recent MS update could have caused this problem because I remember seeing one or two updates this week. I suppose it could be almost anything, right?
Please provide your useful advice. I really need my computer in working order this week.
Thank you 🙏
Judy

Hi, Judy:
You can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.
HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store
Since you have to use the software on another PC to create the recovery media, you will need to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.
Your PC's product number is 9EE29AA#ABA
All data on the drive will be lost by using this method of recovery.

Hi Paul,
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my question. It means the world to me!!
I am going to follow your advice to the letter. Before I get started, can you think of any reason why the HP, **bleep**, & Windows systems failed to notify me that I had a reply in the community to my question? I've been checking my **bleep** multiple times a day and I looked here several times. However, on the HP community site I was not looking in the right place (below my original message). This is the first time I've ever utilized the HP Community for support. Frankly, it was one of my only options because my HP warranty expired.
Can you please explain specifically what you mean when you say that "all data on the drive will be lost by using this method of recovery." Which drive will be affected, the C drive that I'm trying to repair on the HP Omen? If so, that doesn't make me feel very confident. Why is the HP Omen computer unable to find the Windows operating system one day, but not the next?
Please advise.
Thank you again,
Judy

You're very welcome, Judy.
Sometimes the forum has a glitch where an e-mail wasn't generated notifying you of a reply and also, the little 'bell' icon on the top right of the page should have a number next to it corresponding to the number of replies you got to a post, if you posted more than one different topic.
The good news is you found the reply a couple of days later.
Yes, what I was trying to write is that if you have important files and data you can't afford to lose, don't use this method to factory reset the drive.
If you don't care, or have the files backed up elsewhere already, then there should be no problem using the cloud recovery tool-created media.
There is a way to reinstall Windows and still be able to access your files afterward, so if you have to do that, let me know.
Then you can copy the files off the old windows installation and either copy them to the new Windows installation or use the cloud recovery tool to start fresh.
I would not be able to answer any questions as to why things happen, because sometimes they just do.
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Hope you had a great week! Sadly, I have been sick and unable to concentrate on the computer. Now I'm feeling stressed because the directions I followed online did not repair the HP Omen. Yes, even the detailed directions you provided. I have to be doing something wrong.
I found an Emergency Boot Drive (USB) in my desk (I sincerely hope goes to the Omen). I started using Windows to back up the C drive to the D drive roughly a month ago. If the desktop is following my instructions, it should be backing up daily. I was utilizing the iDrive backup service, but their prices became excessive.
Unfortunately, I do have important files/data that I can't afford to lose. I understand that I shouldn't do a factory reset. Do you still want me to use the Cloud Recovery Key, and if so at what point?
Can you please explain how to use the Emergency Boot Disk? Isn't there a key (or multiple keys) that I am supposed to hold down as soon the computer boots up. I can't remember a thing right now.
I'm really sorry to be such a nuisance! My last question for the evening is . . . would you (or anyone you know that has a strong computer support expertise) be willing to provide me with step-by-step instructions for repairing my Omen 30L Desktop PC? I would be especially thrilled if someone would work on the computer remotely. Of course I don't expect anyone to work for free, I'm willing to pay a modest fee. We can discuss this offline. I realize that I would have to solve the boot up issue before the PC can be worked on remotely.
Please let me know your thoughts on this matter, and how I should proceed with the repair.
With Sincere Appreciation,
Judy

Hi, Judy:
I hope you are feeling better.
Don't use the Cloud recovery tool until you are able to copy your files to a portable hard drive.
Here is how you can reinstall Windows and then afterward, access the Windows installation that is no longer working:
Using another PC, make a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below (2nd option).
Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
Boot from the installation media. To do that, have the flash drive in the PC.
Turn on or restart the PC.
Immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu and from that, select the USB flash drive you created with the media creation tool and press the enter key.
The PC should boot from the installation media, and when you get past the Windows Install Now screen, you will be asked 'Where do you want to install Windows.'
Install Windows over the existing Windows partition and it will create a Windows.old folder.
After Windows has completed installing, you can explore the Windows.old folder, find your old user profile and copy and paste the file folders from your old user profile to a USB portable hard drive.
Once you have safely recovered the files you wanted, you can then use the HP cloud recovery tool to factory reset the drive.
If those instructions are not of help to you, I recommend that you take your PC to your local repair shop and have them save your files and reinstall Windows.
I don't know of anyone on this forum that provides remote PC assistance.
Good luck,
Paul

You're very welcome, Judy.
I was referring to you not using the HP cloud recovery tool media I was referring to because that erases the drive, so you have to get your files off that before using the recovery media you create with that utility.
Since I have no idea what the rescue boot disk you have is, you can use it but make sure it doesn't warn you to save your files before proceeding as it will probably do the same thing...factory reset the drive.

Good Afternoon Paul,
I have a few more questions for you. (Aren't you thilled?)
I downloaded Win. 11 and created the bootable USB installation disk. After the download, was I supposed to keep going with the following directions for the Media Creation Tool? Such as . . .
- After downloading, run the media creation tool. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
- If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
- On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
- Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit) for Windows 11.
- Select which media you want to use:
- USB flash drive: Attach a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
Or, was I supposed to download Win 11 (2nd option on the MS pg) and head over to the Omen with the boot disc? BTW, there might be a new development with the health of the HP Omen because this morning when I tried to use the boot discs to turn on the PC, it didn't even attempt to load the Omen startup screen. The background screen was completely black and unresponsive. Does that mean anything significant to you?
In your first reply to me you stated that "Since you have to use the software on another PC to create the recovery media, you will need to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media." Would you kindly explain when this process is supposed to occur because I have not encountered it yet. That's why I feel that I've missed a step (or 20).
Once Windows is reinstalled, can you please elaborate about how I get (all) of my personal files back? You mentioned the Windows.old folder. I'm assuming that I should be able to restore most of my files through the back up & recovery section, correct? What about the most recent files that might not be on the back up?
Ugh, I get sooo frustrated when I am unable to solve a problem!!
Thank you for listening and I look forward to your reply,
Judy

Hi, Judy:
I was under the impression that you were not able to boot into W11 in your PC as indicated in the subject of your post.
So, how are you able to run the cloud recovery tool on your PC if you can't get into Windows?
You can use the media creation tool and install Windows that way using the directions I posted, or you can whatever those boot disks you have, not both.
The PC doesn't usually automatically boot from a USB flash drive or DVD.
When you turn the PC, you immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu and from that, you select the DVD drive or USB flash drive (as applicable) and press the enter key.
