Microsoft Windows 11

I have been unable to find any info on this whatsoever, so trying here, thanks! 🙂

My computer will not go into Sleep mode from time-out of not being used or ever by selecting Sleep in the Power menu on the Start menu (Shutdown/Sleep/Restart). The monitor does say 'No input signal' and goes to sleep, but the computer does not sleep; fans still running, all the lights still on. It seemed to work occasionally when I first got the computer a few months ago; the computer might run a few minutes, I assume to cool down, then everything would go off and the Power light would blink, all like I would expect. However, for most of the time I have had the computer I cannot get it to do that.

I appreciate any suggestions I can get. I guess the next step is to call the HP Support, but I hope to find a simple fix. Thanks! 🙂

Hi, Caerolle

I've same problem on Dell laptops. It's a "problem" with disabled (as default) hibernation mode.

Try to enable hibernation by using this instruction from Microsoft.

Thanks for the response! 🙂

However. I do know how to turn on Hibernate in the Power menu, and have done so. That is really a workaround and is not Sleep, though.

The frustrating thing is, my computer *did* sleep when I first got it, and then would never do it again. And all I have found on the internet is useless. I have just started leaving my computer run if I am going to be using it within a few hours, and doing Shutdown otherwise. Over the years I have constantly run into issues that absolutely no one else seems to have, and it is really frustrating.

Unchecking "Allow device to wake up the computer" in the device properties (in the Device Manager) for the mouse, keyboard and network adapter did not help either?

No, all that does is make it so I have to use the On button to wake the computer. Never goes to sleep; as always, the monitor goes off immediately, but the lights and fans and everything else just keep running. Originally after a couple minutes everything would go dark, and the Power light would flash, which is how it should operate.

I keep meaning to call HP Tech Support but never seem to get around to it. IMO, Hibernate is very close to just shutting down the whole system. I have no idea how hard it is on computers to boot up these days, to me that is about the only reason to do Hibernate rather than Shutdown, as it seems to take about as long to get back operating either way. I guess all your stuff is still open with Hibernate, but takes a long time to wake up.

Thanks for the help! I wonder if it is some AMD-related thing. First computer I have ever bought with 3rd-party processor, I have always felt that AMD chips were not really fully compatible with Windows. I guess other than the Sleep thing it works ok though...
