I was looking at info on Win 11, and according to HP my desktop (see above), is not compatible with Win11, even with an Intel Core i7-7700, on an HP 82F1 motherboard.
It is next to impossible to find out if i can upgrade the CPU .... While i an not a deep geek, i can do intermediate repairs and some upgrades, I don't have to carry it into a shop for most things. I just can't find a really coherent answer, and HP mostly runs me in circles.
thanking you in advance!

You have to have a minimum of reference..so check

Trying to spend money even if possible to have windows 11 on a slightly aging model is of very little interest
especially if it is still in this configuration!

Is there any solution?
One work-around is to keep using Windows 10 until its "sunset" in Fall-2025.
At that point, your computer will be an "antique", and you will need to purchase a brand-new computer.
Maybe, "Santa" may have a nice XMAS present for you.
Who knows, by 2025, what sort of computer will be common -- integrated into your baseball cap, with a video-screen integrated into your prescription eye-wear? Eye-movement tracking, instead of moving a mouse? Blink to "click"? Double-blink in a virtual grocery store, to purchase what you are seeing? Cross your eyes to shutdown the computer?

Microsoft will support Windows 10 until October 2025 -- almost 4 years away. So, stay with Windows 10, and make a long-term plan to buy a new computer.
Contradict my warning ok
but don't contradict yourself

Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements
We risk having serious problems, probably updates, security problems, we do not really know what else
If the installation goes well for some, for others it can be complicated

Think carefully, before taking the risk, see the experiences of other users, see if it can be interesting, or if you can wait to have a new computer later, 100% compatible!
Windows 10 remains one of the best systems, and can be used for quite a while.
I have performed the installation with a compatible computer ..
And I can not take full advantage of the more or less interesting features, because you have to have a certain material
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications
So far, so there is nothing extraordinary about this system
So if the computer is not compatible, you have little interest in using it ..
In some cases, we can have more problem than something else (performance etc), it is better to wait until most of the bugs are solved.
And even better to have a 100% compatible computer, in order to be able to take advantage of the available features
Now, if you want to give it a try, first plan to use specialized software, and make a ghost copy of your installation.
You will not be able to install a compatible processor
you would have to force install windows 11
there are several tutorials on the net, it's up to you

Those "Kaby Lake" processors, as listed in the specifications page for your computer, are "7th generation", and are not listed at:
as being supported by Windows 11.
So, more research is needed, to determine if your motherboard will support later-generation Intel processors. The HP document for your computer's motherboard lists the processors that HP tested & verified. Obviously, the author of that document did not "predict the future", to imagine what "later-generation" processors that Intel would produce & market.
You may choose to stay with Windows 10 until October 2025, when Microsoft will terminate support for Windows 10.
