HP Pavilion 595-p0038nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Last year I purchased an HP Pavilion 595-p0038nl.

It came with:

1 SDRAM DDR4-2666 8GB (Samsung)
Maximum possible memory: 64GB
Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)

1 HDD SATA 1TB (Toshiba DT01ACA, 7.200 rpm)
Drive Interface: SATA/PCIe
SATA version: SATA 3 - 6Gb/s
Serial ATA support: 1

Chipset: Intel H370
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz

and a preinstalled Windows 10 Home 64 bits.

I find that too often it gets slow because of 100% HDD usage, especially at boot time and when opening applications or multiple browser windows.
I have tried many different performance and tuning tips for Windows 10 with no real improvements.
Both HDD and Windows diagnostics are fine too.
HP PC HW and OS diagnostics tests are all fine too.

I am considering the option of some HW upgrades to improve the performance somehow, specifically

1- Increasing the DRAM
2- Replacing the OS HDD with a SSD unit

Option #1 is what I would try first, and I have written a different post asking for some questions.

If increasing DRAM will not help, I will consider Option #2 (SSD).

I have found the following memories which should be compatible with my PC model according to the Crucial site:

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hP-Compaq/pavilion-595-p0038nl#ssd

I have found several 1TB models:

https://www.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct1000mx500ssd1/ct14717677
https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p5/ct1000p5ssd8/ct18154089
https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p1/ct1000p1ssd8/ct14717593
https://www.crucial.com/ssd/bx500/ct1000bx500ssd1/ct15891847

Basically they differ for:

- The Form Factor: 2.5_7mm vs m2_2280
- The interface: PCIe G3 1x4 / NVMe vs SATA 6.0GB/s
- The read/write speed

Are all these models actually compatible with HP Pavilion 595-p0038nl, as claimed by the Crucial site?
What form factor and interface should I choose?

Is it possible to add the SDD, install the OS on it, and keep the existing HDD as additional storage?
I mean in terms of space, slots and compatibility.

I have browsed the Upgrading and Servicing guide, but did not seem to find answers to the above questions.

Many Thanks for your attention,
Best Regards,

Andrea

Since you have used the Crucial site to find these upgrades, you might take note of the statement from your first  Crucial link

These upgrades are guaranteed compatible when you order from Crucial.com

As long as the memory and SSD choices are from the list provided on the first link, then you are golden.

Many thanks for your confirmation that all the SSDs listed in the Crucial site are actually compatible with my PC model.

Based on which considerations can I choose between:

- an interface NVMe PCIe and form factor m2 (Crucial P1, P2, P5) which have faster read and write speed

or

- an interface SATA and form factor 2.5 inches (Crucial MX-500) a bit slower

considering that the price difference is relatively little (except perhaps for the most performing P5), and that I would like to keep the existing HDD as additional storage on SATA, if possible?

If interface and form factor do not make a difference, I would obviously go for the faster NVMe PCIe ones.

I have not mentioned eatlier that the PC also contains a Display Adapter NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, not sure if it makes a difference in terms of available interfaces.

Thanks again!

Hello
as you said the m2 is much faster
You want to keep the hard drive ...
According to the manual there might be a free space for an ssd, it remains to be checked
But indeed, better an m2.

I have finally purchased a Crucial P5 M.2 2280 SSD:
https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p5/ct1000p5ssd8/ct18154089

A probably silly issue I am having now, is that I do not have a M2 screw to fix the SSD to the motherboard: it has not come either with the SSD now or with the PC last year.

I have not found clear information around on what the size/specs of a M2 screw should be for this motherboard Lincs 843B:
https://support.hp.com/it-it/document/c06044040

I have found a very similar discussion in this forum but am not sure if its conclusions fits exactly to my situation:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Looking-for-a-male-screw-size-t...

Can I be sure that a M2x3 screw will do the trick?

I could get a screw kit like the one below and try different sizes, but basically I need one screw and not 500 of them 🙂

Many Thanks!

I don't know if this can help you ..
But with the part number of the computer, on the HP parts site, I found this:

601010-001   Il n'est pas possible de commander cette pièce : HP Part Partners peut vous aider. Cliquez ici.
Screw - M5 M2*3L Blue_W_ZN
RoHS: COMPLY_2.08

Product Number: 6LK76EA
Description: HP Pavilion 595-p0038nl

only I cannot guarantee you that it is indeed this

it is still incredible that they do not provide a simple screw ..

😫
