Hey Non-Sequitur...

Hope your day is going better than mine. The Dementors are hounding me making life miserable. (Brain Fog)

It doesn't help that there's a Teenager Screaming to Get Out of the nasty old body. ADHD sucks.

Sorry You're facing similar issues.

FYI... I couldn't update the Drivers using the HP Support Solutions Framework prior to updating the Bios.

When I went to the Control Panel to uninstall the HP Support Assistant it wasn't there.

When I try to uninstall the HP Support Solutions Framework, I am told I can't remove it because the HP Support Assistant requires it.

#$%^&%$##%$%^^& Con-pewter!!!!

Being creative, I found the Support Assistant in Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled it there.

As the Icon was still on the Taskbar, I chose to Reboot.

After the Boot the Support Assistant is gone from Add/Remove Programs, but Icon is still on Taskbar...

I still couldn't uninstall the HP Support Solutions Framework using either Control Panel/Add/Remove, so I didn't try to remove any of the other files You mentioned.

I will try to find the individual Drivers for this machine later when I am feeling somewhat better.

They're not critical for the moment and will most likely change during the upgrade process.

My Grandfather taught me not to mess with something unless it is Broken along with the KISS Program. (Keep It Simple, Stupid!)

Experience has taught me that Pushing too Hard when I feel like this only makes things worse.

I'm getting a bit frustrated because I haven't had a chance to look at the Parts you have recommended.

Last night I ran the "GPU Benchmark" program in War Thunder.

I've given up some Detail in exchange for Performance, but maybe I'll survive a bit longer against the 10 year olds with their X boxes. LOL.

Thanks again, Andy.

I've marked the Upgrades portions of Our conversations as Solved, for what it's worth.

You've earned my Eternal Gratitude.

Hey Non-Sequitur. I hope you're well.

I've had another relapse / set back. Still not sure why I'm suffering more than normal.

I managed to check out some CPUs' before I lost direction, but that just led to more questions.

Getting the RAM is not an issue as I can purchase it at Best Buy and pick it up in person.

I will most likely purchase it regardless of the end result as it will assist in performance even if I choose to end my relationship with Microsoft and return to using Linux.

Unfortunately, Windows supports Gaming far more that Linux, from what I've read.

Playing War Thunder, getting my Ass kicked by 10 year olds is often my only Escape.

Regarding Parcels: I, in fact, have a Canada Post Parcel Drop in the Lobby of my building.

Whether I can get an item delivered by Snail Mail, on Purpose is beyond Me at the moment.

Keeping Canada Post from going on Strike is another issue entirely.

Far beyond my Powers of Persuasion... although I was once told, "I could sell Igloos to Eskimos." LoL.

In 1 of Your previous posted you mentioned: Thermal Paste...

I am starting to understand why as most of the CPU's on Ebay are used.

The majority are also made in 2017, the same year my Pavillion was made.

I hadn't planned on putting Used parts in my PC. Sorry for not mentioning this.

For some (silly) reason I was under the impression that the Ryzen 7 2700 was a much newer CPU.

Seeing that they were mostly made in 2017 was almost Heartbreaking for Me.

There are Brand New Ryzen 7 2700's still in the Box, ranging from about $330 to $450 CAN.

A couple of the Chips looked like were produced in 2019.

Example: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 4.1 GHz Octa-Core (YD2700BBAFBOX) Processor
nickynumbers, (1354) 100% US $247.79 Approximately C $338.75

Is this Processor/Sink/Fan suitable for my Pavillion?

If you could recommend some New Ryzen 7 2700 options it might help. I'm concerned about the 4.1 GHz aspect.

I am most likely capable or swapping out a CPU/Heatsink/Fan assembly: Swapping Chips / using Thermal Paste is more than I am comfortable with at this time.

I am still interested in the numerous Mini PC's on the Market; something You have failed to comment on.

Not sure whether Your lack of response regarding them is Personal/Profession/Other?

Any suggestions / support is Welcome.

Sorry if I'm taking too much of Your time with this Project.

Am I the only 1 concerned with Windows 10 PC's filling up the Landfills of the Planet?

Thanks, Andy.

@Andycapp61,

Mini PCs? -I don't particularly care for them: among other things, there isn't enough space to install various components such as drives &/or a graphics card.  They seem to me more like a fad -a race to the miniature bottom.  And to what end? My desk is plenty big for a big-@ss desktop: I don't need or want to choose for a smaller PC footprint.

If people say that they need a mini-PC because of limited space, well, to me, if there was limited space, you probably shouldn't make that area a computer workstation in the first place.

Ryzen 7 2700: seems like that the only purchase option for a Ryzen 7 2700 via eBay-Canada is via a PRC Seller such as: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/186477814527?_skw=Ryzen+7+2700&itmmeta=01JXHDT41H24KJ1TFD91JW1QJB&hash=item2....

Why would the processor's 4.10 GHz boost speed be a concern to you?  You'll likely not see much if any speeds close to 4.10 during testing anyway -just like with Intel processors.

Given everything that is happening in the world, I am not terribly concerned about extra PCs being trashed to the landfill.

Kind Regards,

High Non-Sequitur...

Thank for indicating that You are not a fan of mini PCs, and Your reasoning.

Not sure why You sent me back to the previous link sent on eBay for just a processor, when I indicated that I want a Complete CPU/Heatsink/Fan that is New.

Not sure where Our communication(s) went a foul...

The info I sent You regarding the AMD Ryzen 7 2700 4.1 GHz Octa-Core (YD2700BBAFBOX) Processor
nickynumbers, (1354) 100% US $247.79 Approximately C $338.75 is in fact at eBay.ca

My concerns were that it looks different than the CPUs' You specified.

I did my best to give You information that was accurate, but I guess I have failed.

I'm tired. I'm sick. I feel like I'm flogging a dead Horse.

I guess I should have pasted a horrendous link into my message rather than a description. (Silly Me)

You don't seem to want me to buy a new Ryzen 7 2700. Why?

FYI: My desk size is not the issue.

My Narcissist Mother gave me her Accounting Desk which is more than adequate for Computing.

She only gave it to Me because nobody else would take it due to its sheer size.

It's all I will ever see for taking care of her, her husband, and their condo association for 10 years.

Had it come from Anyone Else, I would love it.

This is the Mini PC I am interested in should I choose to go that route, having been Spammed by Google just for showing an interest...

  • AMD Ryzen™ 9 8945HS Processor
  • AMD Radeon™ 780M
  • M.2 2280 PCIe4.0 SSD×2
  • Oculink
  • 32 GB RAM / 1 TB SSD
  • $859.99 CAN
  • Free Shipping from a Canadian company.
  • 1 Year Warranty.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to investigate the components / reviews due to illness.

A 4K KVM switch would allow me to use both my Pavillion and the new UM890 Pro with my Odyssey G5 monitor.

My reasoning for upgrading the Pavillion is:

1. I can do it Gradually. RAM / Ryzen 7 2700, then Power Supply and a better Video Card (GPU)

2. Initial Cost is $500.00, rather than spending over $1000.00.

2. I can run Windows 11.

3. I am concerned about Windows 10 PCs ending up in the Landfill.

Sorry if I hit a Nerve, upset You with my questions.

Your opinion matters to Me.

I've enjoyed our Interaction, despite the research I have to do just to sound coherent.

Andy.

@Andycapp61,

I looked at the UM890 Pro link, and it looks like a nice mini-PC.  Not suitable for triple-A gaming, though.

Please provide the 'horrendous' eBay.ca link for the new CPU/Heatsink/Fan.

In my opinion, you don't need to buy this new, just upgrade to a used Ryzen 7 2700 processor. You can save yourself a bundle -at least that's my perspective.

No, your questions don't upset me.  Just giving you my cent's worth.

Kind Regards,

Hey Non-Sequitur...

I may have slept for a few hours, so I am slightly better that yesterday.

Dude. I am not looking for a AAA Gaming machine.

Playing War Thunder is okay on my current System, but I would like to improve the  Graphics, so I can see what's going on better.

Better performance would be nice, but try to remember that I started out with Pong on a Black n White TV that might have been 12" diagonally.

I'm just trying to upgrade, possibly use Windows 11.

I've never swapped a CPU, or even seen it happen at this point. Your mention of "Thermal Paste" made me think of Soldering components on circuit boards.

My Brain, is so full of useless garbage, that I don't know if I can learn how to exchange CPUs.

I just started watching YouTube videos a year ago.

I would rather spend my money on something new, preferably with a warranty. If possible.

These used Ryzen 7 2700 CPUs on eBay are from 2017.

I have no idea how they were treated. NO way to tell. Being described as "Scratched" tells me nothing.

I have installed a CPU/Heatsink/Fan assembly, although it was over 20 years ago.

Almost everything I did regarding Computer Hardware was over 20 years ago.

I spent hours on eBay, helping my ex-wife collect 50 Barbie Dolls & over 400 Plates, but that was over 20 years ago.

I'm just not literate in these areas.

Because the link is in eBay, it's not a horrendous as I thought.

https://www.ebay.ca/p/12028660860?iid=235740052308

There are a couple of other New options, but they all cost more.

Changing CPUs may be simpler than I anticipate.

I'll try to find a Youtube Video.

I do appreciate what You are telling me.

Andy.

@Andycapp61,

Thank you for helping me better understand your dynamics.

Even though upgrading your PC clearly remains a viable option, all things considered, I think you may indeed be better off purchasing a new system: you avoid potential headaches, and you can start with a new up-to-date device coming with warranty certainties I think you would like a lot.

Please take a look at these mini-PC options via Amazon-Canada: https://www.amazon.ca/stores/page/D8EFAEAE-3C02-4898-90F5-52E527B25E47/?_encoding=UTF8&store_ref=SB_....  I was impressed with the pricing and computing/graphics capabilities.

Wishing you well,

Hi Non-Sequitur...

I watched a couple of videos on swapping CPUs', and I'm feeling retarded for not looking up the process earlier. I could do it, but you are right...

Being an AMD guy... The GMKtec Mini Gaming PC, AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850H (4.70GHz) Desktop Computer W11 Pro, Dual NIC LAN 2.5G 32GB DDR5 1TB SSD, Oculink Port, Dual USB4, HDMI 2.1, DP, WiFi 6, BT5.2 M7 for $599.00 would make any old guy drool.

I could add a dedicated GPU at a later date with the Olulink Port if I ever needed it.

I am curious why You chose GMKtec above everyone else. (As someone who isn't a fan or Mini PCs)

This would be a good way to spend the $600 I have to take out of my RDSP this year.

I guess the big questions is... "Would You buy this PC for Yourself or Someone You know?"

I will investigate GMKtec and see how they stack up against Misinform / Beelink, having looked at them previously.

I have to call it a day now. Having spent a couple of hours looking various CPUs' etc. has left me Braindead.

Thanks Non-Sequitur. You the Man.

The Pavillion will not hit the Landfill regardless. (Linux/NAS?)

Andy.

@Andycapp61,

I may not be a fan of mini-PCs, but if it is the case that a customer such as you prefer them, I can still take a look at the specifications in order to ascertain its utility/capabilities.

In the end you'll have to make as best a decision as you can, I am not trying to sell you anything.  I looked at HP mini-PC equivalents such as the HP Z2 Mini G1x Workstation platforms, but they are either pricey or not yet widely available.

Kind Regards,

NonSequitur777
