Hi @Harisingh9131,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP desktop’s keyboard and mouse stopped working after just a few months, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and fix the issue:
Step-by-Step Fix for Keyboard and Mouse Not Working
1. Check USB Ports
- Try plugging the keyboard and mouse into different USB ports (both front and back).
- If they’re wireless, replace the batteries and ensure the USB receiver is firmly connected.
2. Try on Another Computer
- Test the keyboard and mouse on another PC to confirm they’re working.
- If they work elsewhere, the issue is likely with your HP desktop.
3. Perform a Hard Reset
- Shut down the PC completely.
- Unplug the power cord.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
4. Boot into BIOS
- Restart the PC and press Esc or F10 repeatedly during startup.
- If the keyboard works in BIOS, the issue is likely driver-related in Windows.
5. Use Safe Mode
- If you can get into BIOS, try booting into Safe Mode:
- Power on and off the PC 3 times to trigger Windows Recovery.
- Go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart > Press 4 for Safe Mode.
- If the keyboard/mouse work here, uninstall recent updates or drivers.
6. Update or Reinstall Drivers
- If you regain control, go to Device Manager:
- Expand Keyboards and Mice, and other pointing devices.
- Right-click and choose Uninstall device, then restart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
