Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Your HP Laptop 15-dy2000 (2D117AV) supports up to 64GB RAM (2x32GB modules), so the black screen and memory error could be due to incompatible RAM or improper installation. Here’s what to check:
1. Use Compatible RAM:
Make sure your new RAM matches these specs:
✅DDR4-3200 (PC4-25600) SODIMM
✅1.2V, Non-ECC, Unbuffered
If your RAM has different specs (e.g., DDR5, lower/higher speeds, ECC), it won’t work properly.
2. Try One Stick at a Time:
- Remove both old and new RAM modules.
- Install only one RAM stick and power on the laptop.
- If it works, add the second module. If not, try the other RAM stick separately.
3. Ensure Proper Installation:
- Power off the laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery (if removable).
- Reinstall the RAM firmly until you hear a click.
- If using two modules, make sure both are seated correctly.
4. Reset BIOS (CMOS Reset):
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the power and try booting again.
5. Update BIOS:
- Go to HP Support and check for a BIOS update.
- A newer BIOS version can improve RAM compatibility.
6. Test with Different RAM Brands:
Some HP laptops can be picky with RAM brands. If the issue persists, try RAM from Crucial, Kingston, or Samsung, which are known to work well with HP laptops.
If none of these steps work, let me know the exact RAM brand and model you're using, and I can help troubleshoot further!
Hope this helps! 😊
Kind Regards,
