That should not happen: an HP 942332-001 400-watt power supply is compatible with the HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT.

What concerns me is that the power supply you got is equipped with two 6+2-pin PCIe power cables, whereas an HP 942332-001 should only have one, making me wonder if the Seller mailed you the wrong power supply.  Do you mind showing a picture of the label?

I tried to edit my earlier post with a photo showing the connectors and the part number, but it didn't stick.  Here's that photo:

The label on it reflects a part number of 942332-001.  I suppose it's possible that a fan sensor in the PSU happens to be faulty, but I don't know how I could tell.

It appears -at least from the angle presented, that your 942332-001 "P2" power connector is 'missing' at least two wires compared to my 942332-001:

That would definitely explain the "90E-Power Supply Fan Not Detected" error message.

 

What I would do is reach out to the Seller and show the picture I just posted.  Apparently there are different 942332-001 'versions', and my hope is that the Seller will allow you to return this power supply and swap it with one which has the specific "P2" connector as shown above.

Thank you very much for your guidance. I opened the computer case to look at the P2 connector again and it indeed only has three wires (black, gray, green) in the same pin order as starting on the right-hand side of your latest photo, meaning that a black, white and red wire are missing. Looking at some other online auctions, my model of HP part number 942332-001 is PA-3401-6HY and has a "7 pin 3 line connector" whereas another model number of this same HP part number (ie. PA-3401-1 has a 7 pin 6 line connector like yours. Another auction I saw was for a model number PA-3401-1HA and it looks like it has the 6 line P2 connector as well as a 6+2 pin PCIe power connector. I emailed the seller to ask if there was any good option other than using a different power supply.

No worries, I am not giving up on your power supply issue. Indeed, getting an HP 942332-001 fitted with a 7-pin 6-line P2 connector is key. My apologies, I had no idea this power supply was manufactured with varying P2 power-architectures...

 

Hopefully, you can return your 942332-001 to Seller to get your money back, and we'll find you another unit via eBay with the 7-pin 6-line P2 connector.

I took it for granted HP wasn't this careless and had dislike items with the same part number.  If an HP customer went to source a replacement for the exact same part number they already had and found that the replacement didn't even have the right power connectors, that would surely be a problem.  HP doesn't need to make this kind of mistake.

It turns out the seller sent me the wrong model anyway.  The auction was for the PA-3401-1 model power supply (two 4-pin power connectors, one 6+2 pin PCIe connector, one 6-wire P2 connector) but I was sent model PA-3401-6HY instead.  This probably means I should be due a refund for it at least.

The seller was kind enough to refund the power supply and doesn't even want it mailed back, so luckily I will have a spare.
