Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an HP ProDesk 600 G2 SFF (MB HP 805D, CPU i7-6700) and I would like to upgrade its CPU to support Windows 11. Is it possible?

Hi:

W11 needs an Intel 8th gen core or newer processor.

You cannot upgrade to an Intel 8th gen core processor in your PC.

Your PC only supports the Intel 6th gen core processors.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2/22H3.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.

The 600 G4 would be the first PC in the HP Prodesk 600 model series to meet Microsoft's minimum W11 hardware requirements.

I tried a clean install, but the installation stopped with a message saying my computer is not compatible. Any solution?

Yes, follow the instructions in that discussion I posted and you can even do an in-place upgrade and be able to keep your files, programs and settings.

If that happens to fail, you can then use the USB flash drive you made with the Rufus v3.18 utility.

I've upgraded at least a dozen unsupported PC's to W11 using this method.

So, are you saying that when I will do a clean installation from a USB stick, then the installation will not stop to tell me that my PC does not support Windows 11?

HP Recommended

That's correct .

But you have to use the W11 ISO file download and the Rufus v3.18 utility and set up Rufus as shown in the screenshot in that discussion I posted.

Sorry for continuing this topic, but I did some more research and I have a couple of more questions.

Why do you say that Windows 11 requires an 8th generation CPU? On the list of CPUs that support Windows 11, there are even a few 5th generation CPUs, e.g. i3-5005U.

https://learn.microsoft.com/et-ee/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-10-22h2-supporte...

But that does not really matter, because i3-5005U does not support an LGA1151 socket that the motherboard of my computer supports anyway. The most interesting is that i9-9900K supports both an LGA1151 socket and Windows 11, but you said I cannot upgrade the CPU of my computer. Why?

Please take another look at the link you posted...it is a list of supported processors for W10, not W11.

This is link to the W11 processor guidance from Intel you need to refer to.
