I will use the bios update you provided and post results on Saturday

I'm still scratching my head as to why a BIOS update would have trashed the ethernet.

I have never used any of my HP PC's ethernet adapters because my router is too far away from any of them.

So, I can't even test out my dc7800 unless I dragged it upstairs from the basement, along with a monitor, keyboard, mouse, cables, and plugged it into my router.

I'm also running W10 on mine, and I heard even without a BIOS update some folks' ethernet adapters didn't work on W10, even though it shows up in the device manager as present and working properly.

My dc7800 PC's ethernet adapter shows no indications in the device manager that anything is wrong with it.

Anyway, we will know for sure if it’s the BIOS causing network problems on Saturday when I downgrade it. Anyway I tried setting on IDE and my pc was working with it. Even my network adapter shows no sign of any problem in device manager

Hi:

I decided that since I have a dc7800 running with BIOS v1.35, I would be remiss if I did not go through the trouble to see if I could replicate the ethernet issue for you.

So, I set up the PC where I could connect via ethernet.

I had no problem whatsoever connecting via ethernet.

Since I hadn't used it in 7 or 8 months, I took the opportunity to update it to the latest October 2020 build of W10.

I restarted the PC and let it do more security updates, Restarted it again, checked for more updates.

No more updates, I did a disk cleanup, optimized the SSD, and restarted it again.

I then completely shut down the PC, and let it sit an hour or so, and turned it on again.

Still no issues whatsoever connecting via ethernet cable.

I recommend that before you roll back the BIOS to an earlier version, that you do some other troubleshooting steps like using a different ethernet cable, or different ethernet port on your router, or both.

In conclusion, I cannot replicate the problem.

The ethernet works fine on my dc7800 CMT, BIOS v1.35, W10 Pro 64 bit 20H2.

I think I won’t roll back the BIOS, will try reinstalling windows again. Could be some corrupt files in my system. I have win 10 20H2 with me

Don't forget to change the drive controller setting back to AHCI.

IDE is the worst possible drive controller setting for drive performance.

Yeah, I was anyway planning to do that, will let you know how it goes 😊

I reinstalled windows 10, downgraded BIOS still no network. So, I removed the SSD, RAM and cables and discarded the pc

Sorry that nothing worked to resolve the ethernet issue.

Anyway, it was a very old pc, waste of time trying to troubleshoot it
