Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently had an IT friend of mine install a new Samsung SSD drive to help speed up an old computer and after backing up all my files did a clean install of Windows 10.  Now the computer keeps crashing with the BSOD constantly with "unexpected stop error", "critical process died", "unexpected store exception" and other messages.  We have tried everything we can to try to troubleshoot the issue and can't figure out the problem.  I finally took it into a computer repair place they tested everything, the hard drive is good, they overlayed another different version of Win10 on it with all the updates, and couldn't get it to do it.  They sent it back home and within 5 minutes of startup it crashed again on me.  4 times within an hour.  Anything from trying to reinstall software, to browsing FB, to playing solitaire...no rhyme or reason to it.  I can't do a factory reset back to Windows 8 and freshen it as it came new and then "upgrade" back to 10 again, because all that was wiped out when we clean installed on the new SSD and reformatted the old HDD.  Help.........

Hi:

I take it that the PC was working 100% fine before you upgraded to the SSD?

You have a couple of options...

The easiest thing to try first would be to install the AMD chipset driver for W10 and restart the PC.

Scroll down the page, select the W10 x64 AMD Chipset Drivers (Revision Number 18.10.0830).

https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-9-series-chipsets/970

If that doesn't work, I can give you the instructions to clean install W8.1 by using the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS, and you can run it in W8.1 for a while, and see if the same thing happens.

If it does, your PC may not like that brand SSD.  It happens.

Updating the drivers for the chipset did not work.  I promptly got the BSOD again with "kernal data input error" and then another one saying "critical process died".  Oh well.  Not quite ready to yank the SSD yet and reinstall the old HDD yet.

If you want to clean install W8.1 and give that a try for a while, here's how to do it....

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if yours is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'Standard.'

334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the W8.1 generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.

I don't blame you for wanting to stick with a SSD.  They are great.  I switched all of my desktop and notebook PC's to them.

If W8.1 crashes, this is the SSD I used in several different model HP notebook PC's, desktop PC's, and my Dell PC.

No problems with it whatsoever...
