Example: Pavilion all-in-one-24-b016
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello, I bought this HP Pavilion all-in-one-24-b016 computer in Sep., 2016. A couple days ago, when I turned on the power, it appeared blue screen. Following the instructions on the screen, I did hard drive test, but failed. So I bought a new hard drive, installed, then passed the hard drive test. However I was asked to install the operating system, which I don't have now since there was no OS CD (with drivers) given to me when purchasing this computer in 2016. Yesterday I visited the hp web, tried to find downloading the OS and drivers, but could not get them. Please help me to go forward with this issue. Thanks.

Hi:

You have two options.

Pay HP for recovery media which you can order at the link below...

https://support.hp.com/us-en/mediaorder/HP-Pavilion-24-b000-All-in-One-Desktop-PC-series/10734614/mo...

Install W10 for free by creating a bootable W10 installation USB flash drive with the Media creation tool at the link below.

Make the 64 bit installation media.  Your PC is only supported for W10 64 bit.

You will need access to another working windows PC for this process.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Hello Paul,

Thank you very much for your clear instructions. I took the 1st option you suggested, paid HP for recovery media and ordered the recovery kit, which will take a few days to be delivered. Once the package arrives, I will let you know how it works.

Best wishes, Lin

Hello Paul,

This is Lin again. I received the media recovery kit last night. This morning I followed the system recovery instruction included in the package, after I did step 6, Press F9 to show the boot device menu, I could not go further on step 7: step 7 requires to select the disc/USB containing the recovery media from the list of UEFI Boot Sources, however under UEFI Boot Sources, there is no disc/USB to select. What shall I do, please? Looking forward to your kind reply.

Hi, Lin:

You may have to enable legacy mode and disable secure boot in the BIOS.

See this link for the settings to change.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03659945

Then boot from the Legacy boot source.

Hi Paul,

Following the instructions via the link you provided, I enabled legacy mode and disabled secure boot in the BIOS.

Under Legacy Boot Sources, there are 2 selections, ATAPI CD/DVD Drive, and Hard Drive, but there is no disc/USB to select.

Hi, Lin:

If the USB drive doesn't show up there either, unfortunately, I have no idea what to do next.

I would try every USB port at this point and see if it shows up in one of them as a bootable device.

Hello Paul,

I tried every one of the 4 USB ports on this computer, unfortunately no single one was showed up as a bootable device. I Shall I contact the hp service to see if they can send me a CD instead? Thank you for your efforts to help, the best.

Hi, Lin:

Yes, I suggest you contact HP and see what suggestions they have for you to either get the USB recovery media to work or another alternative, such as a DVD.

It should have shown up as a bootable device.
