Pavilion 23-G013W
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

OK, trying to get real help from HP is (Bul&^) so, perhaps someone here has an answer besides the "buy WIN8" !

I bought this PC Pavilion 23 4 years ago, I think, with WIN8.1 Later I bought a Pavilion 24 and now have a 27.  It has been in the closet for a couple years until about a month ago. I had a "BRAINSTORM" and upgraded it to Win10. No problem there.

Went on a road trip to CA, OR, ID, MT, UT, CO, NM, TX and home. Just got back 2 weeks ago. We are old folks and may relocate to FL permanently so it's time to start selling, donating and throwing away stuff. That includes the PC.

I turned it on and started to reset it to factory condition. Came back later and found that the PC actually reset to a clean Win10 not the win8.1 that is in the HP partition. I also found that there is no option to "go back to previous version of WIN". I tried to reset using the system image created in the  recovery partition but it does not show on the options.

All the HP WIN8.1 recovery files are still in the partition but Win10 cannot access it. Is there a way to re-install Win8.1 and access the partition so I can sell this PC. In other words, can I get access to the recovery partition and re-install win8.1 to factory settings with all the Apps?

HI

After installing winows 10, the system may no longer work
see if it is still possible to create the recovery kit

if not, you can always use the iso microsoft, then get what is available from the drivers and software page

If the computer works well with windows 10, you can very well leave it under windows 10, there are drivers available for this version

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-23-g000-all-in-one-desktop-pc-series/65...

check for hp driver updates

https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows8ISO

Read and check this, i didn't find it from the product page, i had it for my pc
There are fixes if the partition is still present, but the recovery does not work
But I don't know if it will be compatible

The HP Recovery Manager option is not available in the Windows 10 Recovery Environment on the initial Troubleshoot screen. This issue is exhibited after the operating system is upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10. The only options available are Reset this PC and Advanced options.
Figure : Troubleshoot menu: Recovery Manager option not available
to resolve this issue, download and install the following SoftPaq:
HP Recovery Manager Installer for Windows
Version: 6.00

@Macstar

The short answer is NO.

Doing an in-place update to Win10 trashes the recovery partition so after that, no attempt at a factory reset will work.

You might be right, however win 10 did not trash the recovery partition. Everything is still there. All the files are there I just cannot uses them for recovery with win10.?!

Read my answer again, see if the hp solution restored the function

I'm not sure it's possible, I could have installed it before

Just because the stuff still can be seen does not mean it will work -- as you have already determined.

Thanks for the help, none of it works. I copied HP Restore Manager files and Registry from my Pavilion 24 to the Pavilion 23.

It works and accesses some files in the Recovery partition but cannot create a Recovery Disk. Says partition has been deleted. The restore function takes be back to a clean install of Win10 Home and not Win8.1.

It's kind of slow with win10 so, I doubt it will sell. I am going to donate it to the VA along with some other things.

Sorry, but unless you've also tried it before, isn't that what I told you to do?
I think there was a slim possibility that it would work, but it was just a matter of installing the hp file once downloaded.

When I switched to windows 10 I saw this recommendation, like what if we did not install the update, we risked losing the use of the partition.
But I'm afraid we had to install it first!
So see the other proposition, if you want to reinstall the computer.

Otherwise we have this version indicated compatible with windows 10
again no guarantee that it will work

Not to be rude: everything you and the other guy told me to do did not work. The HP App download does not install. All the options on the HP website link did not work as well.

When I bought the PC, the first thing I did was to remove all the HP crap as it constantly annoyed me with pop-up widows/updates  etc. Have done the same with the Pavilion 24 and 27. Got a little smarter though and made a recovery disk so if I ever decide to sell them I can re-install original Win10 Home.

So, when I upgraded the Win8 to 10 there were no HP recovery App (or any other HP apps) in the drive therefore cannot update something that is not there!

I copied the HP recovery manager Apps from a Win8.5 computer (I have several PCs) to PC in question but the option to make a backup disk is disabled (partition deleted) and everything else returns an error as the program is unable to access the files in the partition.

I have installed win8 on it (have disks with all versions of windows  Vista/7/8/10) and bought a legal $5 key on Ebay

PC has been donated to the VA along with old musical instruments and furniture so the problem is permanently solved

Thanks
