Hi,
Open up the RUN window and enter the following: MSCONFIG
Now go to the BOOT tab and check Safe mode then apply and OK.
Remember to change it back once you finished with your tasks.

I have a customer that has forgotten her password, and cannot login to get to MSCONFIG. I am totally unable to get to any form of Safe Mode. If I could get to Safe Mode wityh command Prompt, I could resolve this. I cannot get into safe mode. Any recommendations on how to get to SMWCP? F8 does nto work.

I am linking you 3 documents on entering safe mode in Windows. Simply choose the document that pertains to your operating system and follow the instructions. In the case of VZ_ITGuy I am unsure if this will help but you can try. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I went in and changed the msconfig to boot in safe mode. Windows loads the startup files and then restarts the computer, never quite getting to the Windows OS. Is there a way to uncheck the safe mode startup without being logged into windows?

Easy.
While Windows is up normally, cut the power to your PC. On powering back up, Windows will detect an abnormal shutdown and give you 3 options; Safe Mode without network, Safe Mode with network, or, normally.
Forget any other rubbish you have been told - F8 DOES NOT WORK! This is purely a hardware problem therefore there is no need to employ software solutions that you have to later back-out.
