Hi,

If you installed a new hard drive/SSD and now see Boot Device Not Found, that is expected if the new drive does not have Windows installed yet.

Please check these steps:

  1. Enter BIOS:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Turn it on and press F10 repeatedly.
    • Check whether the new hard drive/SSD is detected.
  2. If the drive is not detected in BIOS, recheck the drive connection, SATA/M.2 connector, or try another compatible drive.
  3. If the drive is detected, create a Windows 10 bootable USB using Microsoft’s official Media Creation Tool on another working computer.
  4. Insert the Windows 10 USB into the HP laptop.
  5. Turn on the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then press F9 for Boot Device Options.
  6. Select the USB drive and start Windows Setup.
  7. During Windows installation, select the new drive and install Windows on it. If the drive is empty, Windows Setup can create the required partitions automatically.
  8. After Windows installation, install HP drivers from the official HP Support page for your exact laptop model.

Also run HP Hardware Diagnostics if the drive is detected sometimes but not always:

  • Power on and press Esc
  • Press F2
  • Run Storage/Hard Drive test

If the new hard drive/SSD is detected and Windows installs successfully, the Boot Device Not Found message should disappear.
