Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
  • Are you able to wake up the computer using a keyboard?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

I do believe it started after a windows update. I have tried trouble shooting. I can wake the computer using the keyboard. The computer will not put itself to sleep, and the screen saver does not work.

Let's try this workaround, Click “Start” button and select “Settings”>System>Power & sleep>Additional power settings>Change Plan Settings>Change advanced power settings>Power Options” screen, expand each setting and ensure that they allow the computer to go to sleep mode setting it to Allow the computer to sleep“ or you select Restore plan defaults.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I tried your advice, and it worked one time. When I put the computer to sleep with the sleep button, it stopped putting itself to sleep, and the screen saver stopped again as well.

Let's try a system restore and check this issue.

System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.
