Hello @_GL_,

I understand that you are getting the 'Start PXE over IPv4' error on startup. I would like you to restart your computer and tap F10 until you enter the BIOS. You then need to click on Storage and then click on Boot Order. Ensure that you set the Boot Order to look for your hard drive first. As PXE is for a network boot it is not required.

I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

I have this same problem and changed the boot order. The hard drive option was "USB Hard Drive". So that's what I selected. The PC still won't start and gives the same PXE4 error?

Hi @GRK64,

Thanks for the post, I understand that you are unable to boot the PC to desktop and you are getting a PXE4 error. I would like to help.

Recommend you to try the below steps.

Boot the PC to BIOS/System utility by tapping F10 on startup.

Reset the BIOS to defaults, save the settings and restart the PC.

Also, check the system date in BIOS.

If you have any external devices connected, like USB drives, printer or network cables, please disconnect them and try to boot the PC.

Also, refer to this Microsoft post for suggested steps http://hp.care/2fQzNQY

Let me know if this helped.

This is probably the wrong choice, unless you have connected, through a USB port, an external disk-drive, before powering-on your computer.

What other choices are available?

As a "last resort", the 'PXE over IPv4' option tries to load the 'P(re) e(X)ecution E(nvironment)' through an Ethernet cable that is network-connected to a "boot-server".  This is common in a "managed corporate network", but extremely rare in a "home network" setup.

So, that 'PXE over IPv4'  error-message means that your computer has tried *ALL* the available boot-options, and yet is still unable to boot.

It's possible that your "internal" disk-drive:

* is not getting any electrical power,

* is not securely-connected to a SATA cable,

* that SATA cable is not securely-connected to the motherboard,

* is "dead".

Check the connections.

Your computer has a list of devices that it can try to "boot" (to start Windows):

* CD/DVD device

* your disk-drive

* USB memory-stick

* network

It may be time to take the computer to a qualified computer-technician, to replace the disk-drive, and to reinstall Windows, and to see if any of your personal files can be "rescued" from the current disk-drive.
