HP Desktop - M01-F1002na
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello.

This is probably (?) the wrong place to post this question, but:

Today I tried installing the HP Desktop Support Utilities app from the Microsoft Store.  It was just out of curiosity and I probably don't actually need it.

However, when I tried to install it, it reported a 'missing required driver' error.

Any ideas please ?

Thank you.

Hi  @Mrmatt1

Thanks for reaching back !

I understand that you were trying to install the HP Desktop Support Utilities application from the Microsoft Store and received a "Missing Required Driver" message during installation. I'd be glad to help look into this further.

To better understand the situation, could you kindly share:

  • The exact HP desktop model
  • Your current Windows version (Windows 10 or Windows 11)
  • A screenshot of the error message, if possible
  • Whether the application was installed previously and stopped working, or if this is the first installation attempt

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

  1. Run Windows Update
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update
    • Install all available updates, including optional driver updates
    • Restart the computer
  2. Install HP Support Assistant
    • Download and install HP Support Assistant:
    • Run the tool and check for any missing chipset, system, or platform drivers.
  3. Update Drivers Using HP Support Website
    • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page:
    • Enter your HP model and install any recommended:
      • Chipset drivers
      • System interface drivers
      • HP Software Framework components
      • BIOS updates (if available)
  4. Check Device Manager
    • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager
    • Look for any devices showing a yellow warning icon
    • Kindly let us know if you see any unknown or missing devices listed.
  5. Repair Microsoft Store
    • Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
    • Select Microsoft Store > Advanced Options
    • Click Repair, then Reset
    • Try installing the application again.

Additionally, the following HP document may be useful for updating HP software and drivers: HP PCs – Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers - click here

I hope this helps.

We already have HP Support Assistant.  Nothing reported as needed there.

Also, the same with the HP support page.

Have had a look in Device Manager, and the following:

I'll now try 'Repair Microsoft Store'.

Can't even see Microsoft Store listed in Installed Apps.

However, if I enter it into the search box, I do get 'Find and Fix Problems with Microsoft Store Apps'.  The MS / Windows troubleshooter, presumably.

We already have the HP App,  and the HP Support Assistant app installed anyway.

Therefore, if we can obtain the same information from either of those, we presumably don't need the Desktop Support app anyway ?

Just had a look in Microsoft Store:

This is a desktop PC, and I can't think of any reason why this model wouldn't support the 'HP Desktop Support Utilities' service ?

Hi @Mrmatt1,

Thank you for the update .
I understand your concern, especially since HP Support Assistant, the HP App, and the HP support website are not reporting any missing drivers or issues.

Based on the information you've shared, the best overall alternative for managing HP system information, updates, and diagnostics is the official HP Support Assistant.

Since you already have both HP Support Assistant and the HP App installed and functioning correctly, you can continue using those tools for driver updates, hardware diagnostics, warranty information, and troubleshooting.

For general support and system updates:

  • HP Support Assistant: HP's primary support utility that provides driver and BIOS updates, hardware diagnostics, warranty information, and guided troubleshooting tools.
  • HP App: Provides access to device information, support resources, diagnostics, and additional HP services.

The HP Desktop Support Utilities application is designed to provide system information and diagnostics.

However, if the functionality you need is already available through HP Support Assistant or the HP App, the absence of the Desktop Support Utilities app may not impact normal system operation.

I also reviewed the screenshot you shared, and I can see that Device Manager does not appear to show any obvious devices with warning icons or missing driver indicators. Since neither HP Support Assistant nor the HP support website is reporting a missing driver, this suggests the issue may be related specifically to the Desktop Support Utilities application rather than a critical hardware driver.

As an additional step, kindly continue with the Microsoft Store Apps Troubleshooter ("Find and Fix Problems with Microsoft Store Apps") and let us know the outcome. This can help resolve issues related to Store-delivered applications and dependencies.

Thanks.

I don't think I need the HP Desktop Support Utilities app to provide me with system specs information and diagnostics but I'd  still like to look at it first to decide.

It all depends whether on how comprehensive it is, or whether I can use another utility for that instead.

I'll now try the MS Store Apps troubleshooter, and let you know the outcome in due course.

Thanks, and bye for now.

Hi @Mrmatt1,

Thank you for the update, and you're very welcome. I completely understand your approach. It makes sense to review the HP Desktop Support Utilities app first and determine whether its features provide the level of system information and diagnostics you're looking for, especially if you already have other tools available that can meet your needs.

I'm glad to hear you'll be trying the Microsoft Store Apps Troubleshooter next. Hopefully, it helps identify and resolve any issues affecting the app installation or functionality.

Thank you for keeping us informed, and I appreciate the time you've taken to work through the troubleshooting steps.

Have a great day, and take care. We’ll be here if you need any further assistance.

OK, so just ran the MS Store App troubleshooter.

It reported that it 'couldn't identify the problem', although no problems were found or reported either.
