Hi @Mrmatt1,
Thank you for the update. Since:
- The Microsoft Store Apps Troubleshooter did not find any issues.
- HP Support Assistant, the HP App, and the HP Support website are not reporting missing drivers.
- Device Manager does not show any devices with warning icons.
This indicates that your system drivers are likely installed correctly and that the issue is specific to the HP Desktop Support Utilities application rather than a hardware or driver problem.
- Uninstall HP Desktop Support Utilities
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Locate HP Desktop Support Utilities and uninstall it.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall the application
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Search for HP Desktop Support Utilities and install it again.
- Test the application again.
If the error still appears:
The application may have an installation or compatibility issue specific to the software itself. Since all HP support tools and Windows diagnostics indicate that your system is healthy, you can continue using HP Support Assistant and the HP App for updates, diagnostics, warranty information, and troubleshooting.

So: just tried reinstalling it. Still 'missing required driver'.
Can't uninstall it from Installed apps, as it didn't even install. Selected uninstall from Start menu. Now going to restart PC.
Will let you know.

So, I've just restarted the PC, and tried to install the app again.
Again I get the same message. 'Missing required driver'.
This is a bit concerning for me. How do I know my PC isn't missing any drivers it should have ?
I may have to forego installing this, but I should still be able to if I need to ?
Thanks anyway.

Hi @Mrmatt1,
Thank you for the detailed update and for testing all the recommended steps. Based on everything you've shared,
What the results indicate
- Windows Device Manager shows no missing or unknown devices.
- HP Support Assistant, the HP App, and HP's support website are not reporting any missing drivers.
- The Microsoft Store Apps Troubleshooter did not detect any issues.
- Reinstalling the application did not resolve the error.
Because all of the above checks are passing, there is no issue that your PC is actually missing a hardware driver.
Since the application continues to show the same error after reinstalling and the system diagnostics are clean, this points to a software compatibility or application-specific issue with HP Desktop Support Utilities.
You can safely continue using:
- HP Support Assistant
- HP App
- Windows Update
to receive driver updates, diagnostics, and support information.
At this stage, based on the tests completed, your PC does not appear to be missing any required hardware drivers, and the issue is isolated to the HP Desktop Support Utilities application itself.

Hi,
Thank you for responding.
I would request youto please share a screenshot of the error message displayed? Also, as you mentioned, are you unable to uninstall the Support Utilities, could you confirm what is the error displayed when you are trying to uninstall.
Have a good day.

Hi @Mrmatt1,
I understand that you were only able to uninstall HP Desktop Support Utilities from the Start menu and that the application never completed the installation process. Based on the screenshot, it appears the installation is not proceeding as expected.
Since the issue involves the installation process itself and may require log analysis, I would recommend reaching out to HP Phone Support. The support team can perform a more in-depth review, collect the necessary installation logs, and guide you through the next course of action. They'll work with you one-on-one to get the issue sorted, possibly with some remote assistance.
1) Click on this link— https://support.hp.com/contact
2) Add or select the product, and change/select your region.
3) Enter the serial number of your device or select Let HP detect your product option.
4) Choose "other" option from the list
5) Select continue to contact option
You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.
They will guide you further.
Regards,
