HP ENVY Desktop - 750-537cb

Does anyone know of a CPU that will work on this motherboard and with Windows 11?  Is there a BIOS update that will allow me to use a GEN 8 CPU?

Hi:

The processor upgrade info on your PC's product specs page indicates that it only supports the Intel 7th gen processors.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.

@schoir22,

I second what @Paul_Tikkanen suggested -you'll find that W11 will run very smoothly on your HP ENVY 750-537cb Desktop PC (Z5M75AA) as fitted with the Odense2-K motherboard (SSID: 82F1).

Reason I wanted to add something to this discussion is to point out that your motherboard can be fitted with the fastest 7th gen processor, an i7-7700K:

Will W11 updates and patches work automatically?  I was stupid and purchased an i7 8700k not realizing that although it will fit, it is not supported by the motherboard and it isn't returnable.

Yes, you will get all of the Windows security and feature updates like you do for W10.

The only difference is that each year when the new version of W11 is released (23H2 is scheduled for release Oct 10, 2023), you will need to use the Rufus utility to upgrade from 22H2 to 23H2, because only PC's that meet all of Micrsoft's hardware requirements for W11 will get the automatic update to 23H2 via Windows Update.

I don't see that as a major issue, just a minor inconvenience.
