I have a 17" HP Envy Touchsmart laptop and am trying to add my HP w2207 LCD monitor as a second monitor. My main purpose for adding the second monitor, was to be able to watch movies on a larger screen format.
These are the following outputs on the monitor: DVI and VGA
The laptop has two HDMI inputs and several USB inputs
I have connected the second monitor to the laptop using an HDMI to VGA adapter. The computer recognizes the monitor and when I get into configuring the monitor that is where I am getting problems, or things aen't working as I expected.
When I go into "Extend", all I see is my desktop on the second monitor minus the Icons and if I'm watchig a movie on the laptop, I lose the audio on the laptop.
If I chose "Duplicate", there is no picture on the second monitor and on the laptop I have a picture but no audio.
If I chose "Second Screen Only", there is a picture and my Icons on that monitor but no audio if I'm watching a movie.
Not sure if what I'm trying to do is at all possible . Are my connections correct and are there settings I have to make that I hven't done?

@Abe_Lincoln, welcome to the forum.
I believe that your connection is correct. Your problem with the sound is, while HDMI sends sound and video, once you connect it through a VGA adapter, the sound is not available. You will have to use a separate cable for sound if you have the connectors.
