I'm repurposing an old Elitedesk 705 G4 SFF and it has 2 DisplayPort slots on the motherboard and an add-on video card with 2 DisplayPorts.

The fan on the GPU is making noise and I want to remove it and reimage the machine with Windows 11.

Shouldn't this PC run without the add-on graphics card if it has onboard DisplayPorts?

Hi:

Yes, it should, so I have no idea why it isn't working unless the onboard Radeon graphics chip is fried.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to shut down the PC, remove the graphics card and reset the CMOS by following the guidance to do that in the service manual.

If that doesn't fix the problem, buy a cheap, used low profile fanless graphics card such as the Nvidia GT710.

This one for example, has a single display port and a DVI output.

You can disconnect the cable for the VGA port, or you can remove an adjacent PCI blank to install the VGA port.

BTW, in order to run W11 on that PC, it will need to have an AMD Ryzen 7 Pro to meet Microsoft's minimum W11 processor requirements, and that processor requires an add-on graphics card, unless you do what I do and use a hack to bypass the W11 hardware check when you go to install W11 on unsupported W11 hardware.

Here's what I do in case you are interested...

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.
