I want to add on that I haven’t managed to get my ram running in dual rank, i’ll do what you recommended but why does cpuz say my ram is single rank when I have them in slot 1,3,6 and 8?
many thanks,

The most likely reason is that you use different RAM: different RAM speed and model/brand: that's why I was able to run my RAM in Quad Channel mode and in Dual Rank mode.

Hi NonSequitur,
may I ask what difference would it make swapping the faster RAM to slots 1 and 3? Wouldn’t they still run at the slowest available speed?
also I think your correct, the different brand is definitely why it can’t run in dual mode

My thinking is that RAM slots #1 and #3 are your primary RAM slots for your system and thus are accessed first. True, I am not 100% clear if this swap would make a difference, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Hiya NonSequitur,
I’m having issues with cpu temperature while playing marvel rivals. This is definitely a universal issue and regardless of what cpu you have the game will run hot. I average around 76degrees C and it goes up to 80.
Issue is, HP’s bios only lets you adjust the fans minimum speed in Idle mode.
I don’t want to have my fans running faster than they need to be in idle mode (idle mode temperatures are fine, also, ANY other game I play doesn’t make my cpu hotter than 70 degrees C). I tried downloading fancontrol but it doesn’t register any other fans than my gpu.
I have my marvel rivals running on all low settings will DLSS on. I’ve heard from some that DLSS makes your cpu work overtime hence making it hot so i’ll try turning it off.
If you have any other recommendations let me know.
hope you’re well,

My take is this: yes, 76 to 80 degrees C is somewhat toasty, but not something too worrying in my opinion.
I assume you used a quality thermal paste such as Arctic MX-4.
Question: do you have this CPU heatsink/cooling fan and rear-chassis cooling fan installed:
Reason I am asking is that this cooling combination was capable to cool my i7-6900K quite well, and I didn't feel the need to mod my workstation adding additional cooling fan(s).

Hi Nonsequitur!
I have that exact thermal paste and I do have those components (cpu fan & heatsink and the rear chassis fan).
I think it’s down to 2 issues.
The first one being the fan possibly not being able to ramp up to full speeds. There is an option in bios to set idle mode high but that would be unnecessary and I don’t wanna waste electricity for no reason lol (the UK sucks 😞 ). If only that one cpu fan could ramp up according to temp, maybe it does but probably not to its max.
I actually took out the heatsink to hoover it and i noticed between the metal sheets there was a coating of fine dust that was not ‘hooverable’. Some sort of grime definitely is acting as an adhesive for this dust. It didn’t hit me that cleaning it would probably make a reasonable improvement on heat dispersion from the metal sheets until after I screwed everything back in ;,(. I’ll definitely give it a wash the following days.
Despite this I agree that 76-80 isn’t terrible, but not ideal.
That fan connector for the cpu is absolutely impossible to detach. I get so scared im going to break it I had to unscrew the fan from the heatsink while it was connected
