Hi I purchased this combination to get better sound than I'd get from a "normal" monitor. But I cannot get the sound to play when using the monitors on board USB ports - the sound bar works when connected to another input. The sales document for the S101 sound bar states:
"Simply attach the speaker bar below your display’s bottom bezel through the slots designed for a perfect fit and connect to the display’s integrated USB port."
The E273 is a supported S101 monitor. Is there something I am missing here - or does this combination/configuration not actually work? I have to use the monitor's onboard USB. The monitor has (3) USB 3.0 ports (2 downstream and 1 upstream) the 2 downstream are USB 3 A and the upstream is USB 3 B.

Hi,
I have a similar issue: e273q (Firmware SQM241) and S101. It's probably related to the HDMI port.
HDMI input port: no sound. Tried it both with a MB Pro and the HP hi speed HDMI cable that came with the monitor, and a Chromecast Ultra. Both times I get a clear sharp video but no sound.
USB-C: Input is detected and S101 works fine.
I changed the power mode to Performance so the USB ports are enabled: no improvement.
Please advise,
Jeroen

Hi,
I have the same issue with speaker bar HP S101 and Elitedisplay E273q. It actually worked when I bought the soundbar in November 2020, but now windows 10 does not find it any more when the speaker bar is connected via USB to the display and the display via HDMI with the computer.
Has anybody an idea how this can be resolved? Thank you in avance!

After numerous calls with the helpdesk (int'l and local) of which the latest local one was the most terrible customer support experience ever (HP, pm me if you want details and name); and two very time consuming display swaps (both confirmed by the HP helpdesk as refurbished displays) , the conclusion is that the display is unable to stream audio to the soundbar when the PC is connected using an HDMI cable. No one was able to find the answer to this problem and in total despair the official Dutch HP customer service rep. described this terrible design flaw as 'works as designed'. Nowhere in any S101 product description it states this is a limitation though.
I returned both the monitor and the soundbar. I will never ever consider buying HP products in the future and will recommend others to also stay far from them.
